(AllHipHop News) Offset has branded the government shutdown "slave s##t" after federal employees in the U.S. have been forced back to work without pay.
The Migos rapper added his voice to growing criticism of the shutdown, which began on December 22, over disagreements about a spending bill.
U.S. President Donald Trump won’t sign the bill to reopen parts of the government because the Democrats are refusing to allocate funding for his border wall between the U.S. and Mexico, something he promised in his presidential campaign.
In an interview with Esquire, the 27-year-old rapper compared the shutdown to the dark days of slavery.
“We’re going through a f##ked up time,” Offset fumed. “Both sides. Black and the white. You know why? The government shutdown. Black people aren’t working, white folks aren’t working. It's everybody."
“Seeing people talk about how they can’t pay their bills but they have to work. That’s some slave s##t. I don’t really get into it politics because I’m usually on the other side of it."
The rapper is especially disappointed by the current situation because he said other countries are "inspired" by America, and "everybody wants to be like us."
Offset continued: "There’s black mothers with jobs, and now you take their jobs away. And then the president, I don’t really want to speak on him but he’s rich. Make a n##ga respect you, because a n##ga don’t respect you. He’s rich and has these folks struggling.”
