(AllHipHop News) Once again, Donald Trump weighed in on A$AP Rocky's legal situation in Sweden. After his first public request for Rocky to be released from jail was ineffective, the Republican president returned to Twitter on Thursday to express his disappointment in Swedish government officials.
"Very disappointed in Prime Minister Stefan Löfven for being unable to act. Sweden has let our African American Community down in the United States. I watched the tapes of A$AP Rocky, and he was being followed and harassed by troublemakers. Treat Americans fairly! #FreeRocky," posted the POTUS.
Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg was asked about Trump's social media backing for the Harlem-raised rapper. The mayor of South Bend, Indiana suggested the Commander in Chief was just trying to score political points with a constituency where he only has a 13% job performance approval rating.
"I'm glad he's sticking up for this one American, but it doesn't take away the bigger problem we have in this country," stated Buttigieg. "For him to try and act like this is going to make up for the ways in which his Administration has deepened the problem of racism in this country, I think a lot of people are going to see through that pretty quick."
A$AP Rocky (born Rakim Mayers) was arrested after the 30-year-old recording artist and members of his entourage were engaged in a physical altercation with two men in Stockholm. Mayers has been charged with assault. His legal team insists he was acting in self-defense.
Many celebrities and fans have called for Rocky's release from incarceration in the European nation. However, some African Americans decided not to join the #FreeRocky campaign because of the "LSD" performer's 2015 comments about social justice activism in the United States, A$AP said, "So every time something happens because I'm black I gotta stand up? What the f*ck am I, Al Sharpton now?"
