(AllHipHop News) There is a very crowded field of competitors seeking to be the Democrat's choice to run against Donald Trump in the 2020 election. Pete Buttigieg is one of the more than 20 candidates in the presidential race.
The mayor of South Bend, Indiana is hoping to become the first openly gay President of the United States. Buttigieg took a brief break from campaigning to acknowledge "Old Town Road" hitmaker Lil Nas X. On Sunday, the 20-year-old Atlanta native appeared to publicly come out on World Pride Day via Twitter.
"@LilNasX has gone from viral sensation to groundbreaking musician. As a fan, I’m thrilled and inspired to see him standing in his truth as a member of the LGBTQ community. Welcome to the family! #pride," tweeted Buttigieg on Tuesday night.
After posting a tweet telling his followers to pay closer attention to his song "C7osure" along with a rainbow emoji (🌈 ), Lil Nas returned to social media to respond to people that apparently took issue with him revealing his sexual orientation. He wrote, "Next n*gga to say something offensive to me getting kissed."
"Old Town Road" has spent 13 consecutive weeks as the #1 song in America, making it the longest-running Hot 100 chart topper for a Hip Hop song of all time. Plus, Lil Nas X's 7 EP debuted at #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums charts.
Mayor Buttigieg is currently polling at 4.8% in the RealClearPolitics average of national polls for the 2020 Democratic Party nomination. He trails former Vice President Joe Biden (28%), Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (16%), California Senator Kamala Harris (14.6%), and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren (12.4%). A CNN poll has Buttigieg at 0% nationally with black voters, a crucial constituency in the Democratic primaries.
