(AllHipHop News) Street rap saw a strong resurgence in 2018. Projects by Kodak Black, Jim Jones, Tee Grizzley, Lil Baby, Westside Gunn, Kevin Gates, Styles P, Dave East, Moneybagg Yo, and others garnered positive feedback from fans.
In addition, Nipsey Hussle's Victory Lap, Pusha T's Daytona, and Meek Mill's Championships were among the LPs on many Hip Hop pundits' "Album Of The Year" lists. Victory Lap and Daytona even scored Grammy nominations for Best Rap Album.
Pusha was a recent guest on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. The G.O.O.D. Music president was asked about his Daytona track "What Would Meek Do?" and the Philly rapper thriving after his prison stint.
"Meek is one of my favorite rappers. He's like a rapper that I've watched on DVDs. I've watched him come up as a kid," explained King Push. "He was actually popping a wheelie in one of my first videos when I first started. He was just a kid on a bike in the neighborhood."
The Clipse member added, "To watch him, watch his rise, see how great he is as an emcee, and then him going through legal troubles for popping a wheelie actually, it was terrible. You see him now and he came out with his new album, it's hot. It's through the roof. Everybody loves it, but he had to go through all of that just to get back to this point."
