(AllHipHop News) There has been speculation for months that Robert Kelly (aka R. Kelly) was being investigated by federal authorities. News broke overnight that the R&B singer was arrested in Chicago by Homeland Security agents and New York Police Department Public Safety Task Force members.
Kelly appeared in the Northern District of Illinois federal court on Thursday where he was hit with a 13-count indictment. Charges include child pornography, enticement of a minor, and obstruction of justice. Reportedly, separate federal indictments were filed in Chicago and Brooklyn.
Earlier this year, the state of Illinois charged Kelly for multiple sex-related crimes such as aggravated criminal sexual abuse and aggravated criminal sexual abuse against a victim between the ages of 13 to 16. Prosecutors in that case claim he sexually assaulted three teenage girls and a fourth woman. Kelly pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.
The 52-year-old entertainer has faced accusations of having sex with underage girls as well as physically and mentally abusing women for decades. In 2008, he was acquitted of child pornography charges connected to an infamous home video allegedly showing the Grammy winner engaging in sex acts with a 13-year-old girl.
Kelly's lawyer during that trial later declared that his client was "guilty as hell!” However, the "Ignition (Remix)" performer still maintains he never had sex with any minors. He has also denied the allegations of abuse by numerous women presented in the Lifetime docuseries Surviving R. Kelly.
