(AllHipHop News) R. Kelly has risked the wrath of prosecutors once again after failing to keep up with his last two months of child support payments.
R. Kelly spent three days behind bars in Chicago, Illinois last month after skipping a court deadline to settle his debts with his ex-wife Andrea Kelly, who claims she is owed more than $160,000 to help care for their three children.
The singer was only released from jail after an anonymous donor put up the cash for his bail, and he subsequently tried and failed to have the $21,000 monthly payments immediately lowered, insisting he can no longer afford the figure he previously agreed to in the couple’s 2009 divorce due to a lack of work.
Another hearing regarding the case is due to be held on May 8, but Kelly may find himself back behind bars before then, if prosecutors decide to take action, as he has reportedly missed two more of the monthly installments.
The news emerges 10 days after the embattled musician banked $22,000 for making a rare club appearance at the Dirty South Lounge in Springfield, Illinois on April 6, when he received a warm welcome from fans.
Prior to the outing, he took to Instagram to beg members of the press to leave him in peace so he could fulfill his professional commitments.
“Yo, this is your boy Kells and I got an event to do tonight in Springfield, Illinois, so I want the media to take it easy on me, man,” the 52-year-old said in the clip.
“This is how I got to get paid for right now. So if you see me in the club, with a couple of drinks in my hand, and chilling, please, take it easy.”
Kelly previously claimed he has been struggling financially in light of the negative press he has received since longrunning sexual misconduct accusations were revisited in the damning docuseries Surviving R. Kelly.
Revelations made in the show, which aired in January, prompted prosecutors in Illinois to investigate the claims, leading them to file 10 felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse against the artist in February.
He stands accused of behaving inappropriately with four victims, three of whom were allegedly minors at the time of the incidents.
R. Kelly has denied all allegations.
