(AllHipHop News) R. Kelly is going to plead not guilty to a charge that he helped the late R&B singer Aaliyah obtain a fake ID.
Back in August, Greenberg revealed R. Kelly had a very limited ability to read. The disability was making it difficult to mount a case, Greenberg said at the time.
But the singer is very clear about the new charges levied against him over his improper relationship with Aaliyah.
“I have met with Mr. Kelly, provided him with a copy of the Superseding Indictment, read it to him, and made sure that he understands it,” R. Kelly’s attorney Steven Greenberg confirmed.
Federal prosecutors believe R. Kelly ran his music business operations as a front to feed his insatiable appetite for under-aged teenagers over two decades.
The singer is facing a bribery charge for conspiring to get Aaliyah the phony I.D. in 1994 when she was just 15-year-old, so the pair could get married.
“He is prepared to plead not guilty in writing,” Stephen A. Greenberg confirmed.
The news of R. Kelly’s criminal charges for marrying Aaliyah comes just as Lifetime Networks prepares Part 2 of their docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly.”
“Surviving R. Kelly” highlighted thirty years worth of allegations against R. Kelly, who is accused of sexually, mentally, and physicaly abusing underaged teenagers and women.
The six-part series laid out shocking allegations against R. Kelly through interviews with alleged victims, family members, and former business associates.
The original version of “Surviving R. Kelly” led to potential criminal investigations in Cook County, Illinois and Fulton County, Georgia.
In “Surviving R. Kelly Part II: The Reckoning,” more victims and experts come forward to offer “insights into the ever-growing saga of the R&B singer, who is currently facing federal and state charges.”
According to Lifetime, Surviving R. Kelly Part II” will premiere on January 2nd. The docuseries will then air additional episodes over the span of three consecutive nights.
