R. Kelly's Team Claims Released Statement Attacking The Media Was Unauthorized

His management disavows the quotes credited to the veteran crooner.

(AllHipHop News) There seems to be a lot of confusion taking place among R. Kelly's current public relations team. Last week, a statement was released on behalf of R. Kelly Tours which quoted Kelly saying the media was trying "to distort my character and to destroy my legacy that I have worked so hard to build."

However, the singer's managers are disavowing those words because the statement was apparently unauthorized. The May 4 email including the "distort and destroy" response was sent by someone named Katie Thompson, and Kelly's management acknowledged Thompson may indeed work for the 51-year-old Chicago native.

Robert Kelly, the self-described Pied Piper of R&B, has faced accusations of pedophilia and sexual misconduct for over two decades. This year has seen the rise of the #MuteRKelly campaign which picked up a co-sign from the Times Up movement's Women Of Color group.

Further attention was placed on the multiple allegations against Kelly after a 2017 Buzzfeed exposé claimed the Grammy winner was holding women against their will as part of a "sex cult." Since that time, more alleged victims - some said to have been underage at the time of contact - have come forward to unmask Kelly's supposed abusive behavior.

R. Kelly has repeatedly denied engaging in any illegal sexual activity or abuse. In 2008, he was found not guilty of child pornography charges.
