(AllHipHop News) North Carolina emcee Rapsody picked up a Best Rap Album Grammy nomination for 2017's Laila's Wisdom. The Jamla Records/Roc Nation recording artist is ready to return with a new body of work.
Rap uploaded a teaser trailer to her Instagram page. The clip included images of iconic Black women such as Nina Simone, Maya Angelou, Serena Williams, Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Beyoncé, Queen Latifah, Aaliyah, Lauryn Hill, and Aretha Franklin. The video closes with the words: "Rapsody. Eve. August 2019."
“It’s my ode to the women in my life who have made me who I am, but at the same time I realize it’s bigger than me,” Rapsody told Essence. “It’s more about the village of Black women. I feel like we all have similar experiences and similar stories and very similar inspirations. My last album, that was for me. That was all personal things that, you know, you can listen to and maybe you can relate, but a lot of it was for me.”
Laila's Wisdom featured contributions from Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, Black Thought, Busta Rhymes, BJ the Chicago Kid, Musiq Soulchild, and others. Last year, Rapsody teamed with fellow North Carolinian J. Cole for "Sojourner" off the 9th Wonder Presents: Jamla is the Squad II compilation.
