The award-winning entertainer could be one step closer to earning an esteemed honor.

(AllHipHop News) NBC’s Easter Sunday special presentation of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert was a big hit. According to Deadline, the musical drew in 9.6 million viewers and a 1.7 rating (adults 18-49, Live + Same Day).

The John Legend-produced rock opera beat out another music-based program. ABC’s American Idol only brought in 7.4 million viewers and a 1.6 rating in the demo at 8-10 pm.

Legend also starred in the titular role. The rest of the cast included Sara Bareilles as Mary Magdalene, Brandon Victor Dixon as Judas Iscariot, Alice Cooper as King Herod, and Norm Lewis as Caiaphas.

Jesus Christ Superstar Live would be eligible for the 2018 Primetime Emmy Awards. If the show takes home the honor, John Legend would become just the 13th person to win the prestigious EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) in competitive categories.
