(AllHipHop News) Russ has seemed to embrace his heel turn in Hip Hop. The Zoo album creator rarely bites his tongue when it comes to sharing his views on the state of the culture.
Earlier this year, old footage of Russ slamming modern producers made the rounds on social media again. Other beatmakers like Metro Boomin, Southside, Cardo, Frank Dukes, and London On Da Track slammed the platinum-selling rhymer for his comments.
Russ doubled down on his production statement during a new interview with Genius. He told Rob Markman, “I was talking about anyone that makes wack beats. So if you responded, I assume you think you make wack beats.”
The Georgia-bred entertainer later stated there is a difference between veteran producers Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Pharrell, Timbaland, Boi-1da, Scott Storch, and Just Blaze and contemporary producers Metro Boomin, Southside, Lex Luger, Murda Beatz, and Young Chop. Russ referred to the latter group as the equivalent to rappers that are only hot for one year.
“All those people I just named, I’m not saying you don’t make hard beats,” explained Russ. “What I’m saying is at least have a bird side view to look down upon it and have an honest opinion that at the end-of-the-day, that is what the culture does. We do chew up artists and producers and spit them out.”
He added, “Unfortunately, a lot of the production is monotonous and sounds the same which is why they always get chewed up and spit out. The ones who make unique sh*t last forever… those people I mentioned, the reason they get chewed up and spit out is because they’re the hot sh*t at the moment… my suggestion to upcoming producers is make timeless music instead of trying to fit in with the times.”
