Spike Lee, 'Black Panther' & 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' Win 2019 Oscars

(AllHipHop News) The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences held its 91st annual award show last night. While the controversial Green Book was named Best Picture, films connected to Hip Hop culture took home Oscars too.

Black Panther won Best Original Score (Ludwig Göransson), Best Production Design (Hannah Beachler, Jay Hart), and Best Costume Design (Ruth E. Carter). Another Marvel superhero movie triumphed as well. AMPAS voters chose Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse for Best Animated Feature Film.

After receiving an Honorary Award in 2016, Spike Lee finally won a competitive Academy Award in 2019. The legendary filmmaker's BlacKkKlansman picked up the honor of Best Adapted Screenplay.

In addition, Mahershala Ali earned his second Best Supporting Acting Oscar in three years for his turn in Green Book. If Beale Street Could Talk star Regina King won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar.
