(AllHipHop News) Spike Lee debuted in 1985 and almost 30 years later he is bringing back the film that got his movie career started. Yesterday (May 5th), it was reported that Spike Lee will head an adaptation of his debut film, She's Gotta Have It for a TV show on Showtime.
The movie, which will examine the gentrification of Brooklyn, was picked up by Showtime and is in development with Lee set to write the script. There is no word on if Lee will also direct, edit and star in the TV adaptation, as he did in the original film.
The original 1985 film She's Gotta Have It, was shot in 12 days on a budget of $175,000. Since its release, the film has grossed over $7 million. Spike Lee stated in past interviews that She's Gotta Have It was the hardest film to get financing for in his career.
