Two Atlanta rap legends both want credit for the sound dominating the south.

(AllHipHop News) Who is the originator of Trap music? Over the last few days, T.I. and Gucci Mane have been going back-and-forth on social media over the title.

Gucci posted a picture on Instagram with the caption, "#FBF The Day I Invented Trap Music." Guwop also tweeted, "I’m the King Of Trap You Should Call Me Sire and I want stop stunting til."

Tip then fired back by posting on his own IG page. He wrote:

Ok,so.... AGAIN for the slow ones in the back...August 19th,2003 Birth of Trap Muzik & Only fools dispute facts!!! FOH wit that Christopher Columbus ass... “Look what I discovered, even though they was already here” ass shit!!!! WITCHO GOOD CAPPIN ASS

Once a photo comparing a 2001 Gucci mixtape to T.I.'s 2003 album Trap Muzik began circulating online, the Grand Hustle boss jumped back on Instagram. This time, Tip uploaded a clip from the "Dope Boyz" video off 01's I'm Serious LP.

The caption for the vid reads:

This sh-ts obviously goin over y’all heads...so.... i guess I’m gon take the High Road & Just let y’all carry on in the ignorance of fake news... but for those who care for statistics & Facts... this is 2001. I’m serious. “Dope Boyz & The Trap Ni66az”
Y’all stay classy....✌🏽

It should be noted that other creators from The South such as OutKast, Goodie Mob, Dungeon Family, UGK, Master P, Jeezy, DJ Toomp, Zaytoven, Lil Jon, Drumma Boy, and Shawty Redd were heavily influential in the creation and rise of Trap music. On OutKast's 1998 track "SpottieOttieDopaliscious," Big Boi raps, "So now you back in the trap just that, trapped."
