T-Pain reflected on the CMT Music Awards sketch with “T-Swizzle" during his recent appearance on Desus & Mero. After joking that it’s “f-cked up” to support Swift now, the creator of the forthcoming Oblivion album expressed he may have been the butt of the “Thug Story” joke.
“I just realized I only collaborated with her to make fun of Hip Hop. That was f-cked up,” said T-Pain before laughing. “I just realized I got played like 9 years ago. Oh f-ck!”
Swift has been the target of “cultural appropriation” accusations throughout her career. In 2014, Earl Sweatshirt slammed Taylor’s “Shake It Off” visuals for what he saw as the perpetuation of African-American stereotypes. Beyoncé’s Bey Hive fanbase blasted Swift in August for supposedly stealing from “Formation” for the "Look What You Made Me Do" video.
