Did the league really offer Hov the chance to entertain the crowd during the halftime show?

(AllHipHop News) This week saw reports suggesting Jay-Z turned down the chance to perform during the halftime show at Super Bowl LII in 2018.

There was speculation the Brooklyn emcee rejected the opportunity in order to stand in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, the quarterback that has been unable to get signed by an NFL team after taking a knee during the national anthem last season.

The league has now issued a statement regarding the rumors Jay was offered the coveted slot.

“No decisions have been made on the performer(s) and we are not going to speculate on particular artists,” stated an NFL spokesperson. “Along with Pepsi, we know that we will put on a spectacular show. When it is time to announce her name we will do it. Or his name. Or their names.”

Jay-Z's wife Beyoncé has performed at a Super Bowl twice in the last four years (2013, 2016). Over the last decade, Hip Hop stars Nicki Minaj, CeeLo Green, and Missy Elliott have taken part in the halftime show.
