(AllHipHop News) Streaming accounted for 47 percent of global music revenue in 2018, according to the IFPI Global Music Report. There are now 255 million users on paid streaming services.
Spotify is still one of the industry leaders with at least 87 million paid subscribers and 109 million ad-supported users. Hip Hop records are consistently among the most popular tunes on the platform.
Of the 25 songs that have been streamed over 1 billion times on Spotify, four belong to Hip Hop lead acts. Drake has two entries on that list: “One Dance” (featuring Wizkid and Kyla) and “God’s Plan.”
The Canadian’s global hits are only joined by Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble” and Lil Uzi Vert’s "XO TOUR Llif3.” 21 Savage’s contribution to Post Malone’s “Rockstar” and Young Thug’s guest feature on Camila Cabello’s “Havana” put those two Atlanta representatives on the billion-streamed list as well.
Pop superstar Justin Bieber leads the pack with the most songs to cross the billion mark on Spotify (5). Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” has amassed more than 2 billion Spotify streams. The English singer-songwriter has four songs with over 1 billion plays on the service.
