Tidal Accused Of Inflating Numbers To Get Beyonce And Kanye Bigger Checks
(AllHipHop News) Jay-Z's company Tidal is the subject of another investigation by the Norwegian paper Dagens Næringsliv, which has raised some troubling claims about the subscription service.
According to the latest piece, Tidal is being accused of manipulating the streaming numbers to benefit Jay's wife Beyonce, as well as his buddy Kanye West.
Tidal allegedly gave money that was meant for other artists, in order to compensate Bey and Ye, even though their numbers were not real, according to the article.
Reporters somehow obtained a hard drive with internal data directly from Tidal's servers, which they claim shows how Tidal faked hundreds of millions of plays for the artists, in order to get them bigger payouts.
The data was even analyzed by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, whose researchers confirmed there were some shady practices happening with Beyonce and Kanye's streams.
Tidal issued a statement denying the claims while calling out Dagens Næringsliv for running a smear campaign against Jay-Z and Tidal.
“This is a smear campaign from a publication that once referred to our employee as an ‘Israeli Intelligence officer’ and our owner as a ‘crack dealer,’” a Tidal spokesperson said. “We expect nothing less from them than this ridiculous story, lies, and falsehoods. The information was stolen and manipulated and we will fight these claims vigorously.”
In the January 2017 article, Dagens Næringsliv claimed Jay and Tidal had been lying about having 3 million subscribers when the real number was only about 1 million.
