(AllHipHop News) Prince Rogers Nelson would have been 61 years old today (June 7). The music world lost the award-winning icon on April 21, 2016. To celebrate his life, the Prince Estate partnered with Tidal to let loose a new collection of previously unreleased tunes titled Originals. The album consists of songs the Purple One wrote and recorded for other artists.
Tidal is offering a special 90-day free trial to experience Prince's original version of records such as "Manic Monday," "The Glamorous Life," and "Nothing Compares 2 U." The tracks were selected by Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter and Troy Carter, on behalf of The Prince Estate.
"Prince led the way, for artistic freedom, for ownership. He's one of the bravest people I can think of in the industry. He trusted us, not just me, but Tidal, to continue his fight," says Jay.
The billionaire Hip Hop mogul continued, "Trying to help further that legacy through his music is an honor we couldn't pass up as an organization dedicated to empowering artists. This gives his true fans that peek behind the curtain."
Jay-Z hosted a special Originals listening event in Los Angeles on June 6. Audio companies PSB and NAD will showcase the project in MQA quality on June 18 in New York City and June 20 in San Francisco. Prince's Originals is now streaming exclusively on Tidal. Non-members can sign-up for the service's 90-day free trial at tidal.com/Prince.
