Trippie Redd Explains Why He Didn't Take Part In The 2018 XXL Freshman Cyphers

Does the Ohio rhymer have a legit reason for quitting?

(AllHipHop News) Even though J.I.D. and Ski Mask the Slump God's XXL Freshman cypher is the only one that's been released so far, fans are already calling it the best of 2018. More cyphers are expected to arrive soon, but apparently, you won't see Trippie Redd in one of the videos.

"F-ck all that sh-t. I wasn't left off the cypher or none of that sh-t. I just didn't want to do it. I chose not to do it because I knew the beat was going to be trash,” said Trippie. “Nothing against XXL or them people, but I just didn’t wanna be a part of that. I wanted to do my freestyle. That’s all I cared about. That’s all I wanted to do was show y’all what I can do.”

The 19-year-old added, "How's that a stupid excuse? Because I didn't want to get in front of a camera with a bunch of other n-ggas that I don't feel are like me at all and rap over a little sorry ass beat?

XXL Freshmen have been performing in the cyphers for years. With Trippie opting out, there's now a question if this sets a precedent for future classes. Should the artists get to choose what segments of the shoot they want to participate in?
