(AllHipHop News) Before hitting nationwide theaters on March 22, Jordan Peele's Us premiered on March 8. The highly-anticipated motion picture screened at the 2019 South By Southwest conference and festival in Austin, Texas.
Scissors play a prominent role in the marketing for Us. The cutting tools are a representation of the movie's theme. Peele spoke about his fright-filled film and the golden blades while on the SXSW red carpet.
"My favorite thing about horror movies is that everyday objects are used as weapons. I just think that's a great aesthetic," says the director/screenwriter. "The scissors have many sorts of thematic levels as I try [to do] with everything. But they are an object of great duality. This movie is about the duality of humankind. You got to write the essay. I just make the movies."
In addition, special #UsFirst screenings were held in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and New York City for black journalists, media personalities, celebrities, and fans. The initial responses about Us have been positive with Lupita Nyong'o garnering substantial praise for her performance as Adelaide Wilson and the character's sinister doppelgänger.
Us also stars Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss, Tim Heidecker, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Anna Diop, Evan Alex, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Madison Curry, Cali Sheldon, and Noelle Sheldon. The home invasion thriller is the first movie directed by Jordan Peele since his Oscar-winning hit Get Out in 2017.
Peele, Sean McKittrick, Jason Blum, and Ian Cooper are credited as producers for Us. The chilling full-length feature is being released via Monkeypaw Productions, Blumhouse Productions, and Universal Pictures.
