(AllHipHop News) The state of Virginia continues to be rocked by a series of scandals involving their top politicians wearing blackface.
Earlier today, Virginia Attorney General Mark Herrin made a shocking admission that he dressed up in blackface in 1980, to look like rapper Kurtis Blow.
"In 1980, when I was a 19-year-old undergraduate in college, some friends suggested we attend a party dressed like rappers we listened to at the time, like Kurtis Blow, and perform a song,” Herring said. “It sounds ridiculous even now writing it. But because of our ignorance and glib attitudes – and because we did not have an appreciation for the experiences and perspectives of others – we dressed up and put on wigs and brown makeup.”
"This was a onetime occurrence and I accept full responsibility for my conduct," he said.
The news adds to a growing scandal involving Virginia Governor Ralph Northam.
Governor Northam refuses to resign after a shocking photo of "someone" in blackface standing next to a Klansman under his name in his 1984 medical school yearbook surface last week.
First Governor Northam admitted he was one of the men in the picture, but he later backtracked and said he was neither of the men.
He did admit to putting shoe polish on his face and dressing up as Michael Jackson for a dance party in 1984.
Even if Governor Northam does resign, the Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax is facing a scandal himself, over an allegation he sexually assaulted a woman during the Democratic National Convention in Boston in 2004.
