"When it comes to racism, oppression... it's really just part of the program."

(AllHipHop News) Pharrell Williams and Scott Vener hosted an episode of their OTHERtone show during the 2018 ComplexCon. Def Jam recording artist Vince Staples and political activist DeRay McKesson were the special guests for the panel discussion held in Long Beach, California.

The conversation covered social injustice, racism, police brutality, and motivating the youth. A live studio audience was present to watch the four men share their views on the topics.

"In my upbringing, the last thing you worry about is presidential politics. We don't care about the Senate," said Staples, an LBC native. He also told a story about local police allegedly harassing him repeatedly.

"A couple days ago there was an Al Jazeera report that said Long Beach leads in police-involved shootings and police-involved homicides for the United States... This whole report showed no one cares," added the FM! emcee. "When it comes to racism, oppression, and things like that, it's really just part of the program."
