(AllHipHop News) Do you remember the ill-fated 2017 Fyre Festival? The "luxury" music experience organized by Fyre Media founder Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule ended up being a complete sh*tshow.
Promoted by social media influencers, such as supermodels Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid, as an opulent getaway set in The Bahamas, the Fyre Festival turned out to be more Mad Max: Fury Road than a Caribbean Coachella.
Attendees arrived on Great Exuma to disappointing performances, unlivable conditions, and skimpy cheese sandwiches. The entire event was then canceled, stranding people on the island for hours.
The United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York accused McFarland of hatching a scheme to defraud investors in Fyre Media. The son of New Jersey real estate developers was eventually sentenced to six years in federal prison for wire fraud.
Netflix is now providing an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how the Fyre Festival unraveled. Chris Smith directed the documentary titled Fyre. The streaming service released a first-look trailer for the film which is scheduled to premiere on January 18, 2019.
