(AllHipHop News) Back in October 2018, it was announced that Hulu is creating a television series based on the true story of the Wu-Tang Clan. Deadline has now disclosed the first six members of the drama's cast.
Wu-Tang: An American Saga is set to star Ashton Sanders (Moonlight), Shameik Moore (The Get Down), Siddiq Saunderson (Messiah), Marcus Callender (Power), Zolee Griggs (Ballers) and Erika Alexander (Living Single). Chris Robinson (The New Edition Story) will direct the pilot.
Robert "RZA" Diggs worked with writer Alex Tse (Superfly) to create the show. RZA previously stated, "This opportunity to continue the Wu saga in a 10-episode series will exponentially increase our inspirational style of entertainment. In the immortal words of ODB, 'Wu-Tang is for the Children.'"
An American Saga is set in early 1990s New York City. Audiences will follow the journey of Bobby Diggs (played by Sanders) as he forms the Wu-Tang, which will eventually become one of the most influential Hip Hop groups of all time.
Wu representatives RZA and Method Man serve as executive producers. Fellow Wu-Tang Clan members Ghostface Killa, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa, GZA, and the Ol’ Dirty Bastard Estate are credited as consulting producers. Meth has said, "Imagine: Hulu and Wu-Tang - I'm thrilled with this collaboration. This is a major win for Hip Hop."
