(AllHipHop News) Rappers the Wu-tang Clan have teamed up with bosses at Milk Makeup to launch a new cosmetics collection.
The group's RZA explains the lipstick line was "spearheaded" by his wife, who used to model Milk Makeup products, and was inspired by his love for New York.
"I have a great relationship with Milk's founder, (Mazdack) Rassi, vb Jand as New Yorkers, we've frequented some of the same circles. We spoke about fashion and the cosmetic world and I revealed that (Talani), my wife, has a cool perspective about makeup (because) in her youth, she was in the modeling circles," he said. "She is a fan of Milk Makeup's products and when (Rassi and I) talked about forming a collaboration that reflected our NYC sensibility and philosophy, makeup became the unique and unpredictable choice..."
Wu-Tang Clan is heavily influenced by Chinese culture and their makeup line will follow suit and will be named after the I Ching Trigrams: Sacred, Fire, Chi, Flow, Frequency, Source, Cypher, and Ruckus.
The eight lipsticks will come in red and pink hues and are cruelty-free and vegan.
The packaging will also include unique features like a black bullet case, golden dragons, and the group's W logo.
R&B singer Teyana Taylor has produced a visual for the collection and RZA has composed a song to accompany for the accompanying campaign.
"The track is a mixture of Wu classic hip-hop with a few ounces of Yin energy," RZA says. "The rugged-yet-beautiful movements of Teyana accompanied by the products' look and packaging led the editor, my collaborator Tariq, and myself to make the music resonate."
"(Working with Milk and Wu-Tang) was a no-brainer," Taylor adds. "I have been a huge fan of Wu-Tang forever and I love the modern energy of Milk Makeup. When I saw the quality of the lipstick with the custom-sculpted dragon on the bullet, I was impressed - it's like a work of art."
The collection is available online.
