(AllHipHop News) The New York City Borough of Staten Island proclaimed November 9 as Wu-Tang Clan Day. Plus, the corner of Targee Street and Vanderbilt Avenue is being named after the iconic group.
The hometown Hip Hop heroes are celebrating those accomplishments with a Wu-Tang Clan District Day on Saturday, May 4. Members of the Wu, community leaders, special guests, and Councilwoman Debi Rose will be at the event.
Local officials will be on hand for the dedication and reveal of the street sign. Numerous activities - such as bounce houses, rock climbing, and face painting - will be available for residents as well.
Community engagement initiatives will include youth empowerment, voter registration, and health/fitness awareness. Additionally, the area at Sobel Cortt between Targee Street and Park Hill Avenue is being transformed into a community center and children's playground.
Wu-Tang Clan burst onto the entertainment scene with 1993's instant classic Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). The album was followed by other LPs like Wu-Tang Forever and A Better Tomorrow. Each member also branched out to create their own music projects and business ventures over the past quarter-century.
