Wyclef Jean Grand Marshal In Caribbean Day Parade

Wyclef Jean is one

of five grand marshals at today’s 37th annual Caribbean American West Indian

Day Carnival in New York.

The annual event

started at 11 am this morning (September 6) in Brooklyn and celebrates the culture

of those who hail from the West Indies.

Over 2 million

people are expected to see at least 70 floats and hundreds of people celebrating

in costumes on Eastern Parkway.

Wyclef is the first

Haitian to be a grand marshal for the parade. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton

was supposed to be one of grand marshals with the rapper, but it wasn’t

clear if she was able to attend to due the hospitalization of her husband, former

U.S. President Bill Clinton, with a heart ailment.

Gov. George Pataki, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other city officials will walk

in the parade.
