Wyclef Jean's Childhood In Haiti To Be Turned Into An Animated Film For Netflix

The Grammy winner is telling the story of his early days in the Caribbean nation.

(AllHipHop News) More Hip Hop entertainment is headed to Netflix. The streaming titan is bringing a CG-animated film based on Wyclef Jean's life to the service.

Deadline reports Netflix is creating a motion picture inspired by The Fugees member's childhood in Haiti. Justin Marks (The Jungle Book) was tapped to write the script. Greg Silverman’s Stampede production company is involved as well.

“I grew up in extreme poverty but I was rich with imagination,” said Wyclef, who is also serving as a producer for the movie. “Now to see that imagination turn into reality with Netflix and my producing partners makes me want to tell the kids from the slums around the world to never stop dreaming.”

Netflix has also been the home to other original Hip Hop-related content such as The Get Down, Luke Cage, Rapture, Hip-Hop Evolution, and Bright. Plus, lauded filmmaker Ava DuVernay is working on a documentary about R&B/Pop legend Prince.
