(AllHipHop News) Last month, Spotify announced R. Kelly and XXXTentacion’s records were being removed from the streamer’s editorial and algorithmic playlists. XXX is now back on the lists, and his untimely death has even led to a spike in Spotify streams for the late rapper.
In fact, XXX’s "Sad!" broke Spotify’s single-day streaming record with 10.4 million plays on June 19. He surpassed Taylor Swift’s "Look What You Made Me Do" which collected 10.1 million streams on August 25, 2017.
Spotify placed "Sad!" at the top of the popular Rap Caviar playlist on the day of XXX’s death. The streamer also created a tribute playlist for the up-and-coming star.
XXXTentacion (born Jahseh Onfroy) released two studio albums during his lifetime. 2017’s 17 opened at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart. The follow-up, ?, debuted at #1 in March of this year.
Onfroy was killed on June 18. Two suspects reportedly shot the 20-year-old Floridian during a robbery. As of press time, no one has been arrested for the murder.
