(AllHipHop News) Pose star Billy Porter generated a lot of attention for his Christian Siriano-designed tuxedo-gown worn at the 2019 Academy Awards. The outfit was interpreted as an homage to gay icon Hector Xtravaganza.
"My goal is to be a walking piece of political art every time I show up. To challenge expectations. What is masculinity? What does that mean? Women show up every day in pants, but the minute a man wears a dress, the seas part," said Porter in a Vogue article. He added, "People are going to be really uncomfortable with my black ass in a ball gown - but it’s not anybody’s business but mine."
One Hip Hop artist used that highly-publicized moment on the Oscar red carpet to call out the critics that slammed him for a similar gender-bending ensemble. Young Thug posted a photo of Porter on Instagram with the caption, "Now if y’all don’t do this n*gga how y’all did me I know some."
Thugger was routinely hit with considerable resistance for his tendency to don clothes designed for women. The Atlanta-bred musician famously wore a light-blue, ruffled dress on the cover of his 2016 mixtape titled Jeffery.
This is not the first time Young Thug has expressed his thoughts on how he was treated over his fashion choices. Last year, he said, “I made the way for young n*ggas to open up and be they self. I did this. I got crucified. They called me gay. They ain’t call y’all n-ggas gay."
