(AllHipHop Rumors) Tory Lanez was the defender of the Black universe...for a second. Let us recap. People that are dark-skinned like myself are always on the look for allies against colorism. For those that don't know, colorism is a particular type of bigotry that exists because it discriminates along lines of shading. Typically, people say "you are too dark for this job." Well, over the weekend Tory Lanez posted a video of him coming to the aid of a darker skinned model who was swapped out for a lighter, curly haired video chick. In the clip, he's like "Nah, we gonna keep our darker sister." And there was a caption.
This is an On -Going problem in our community of entertainment that needs to stop . As a black man , Sometimes I’m going to joke about the black community just like we all do . BUT WHAT IM NOT GOING TO DO IS ALLOW ANY OF THESE DIRECTORS TO DE-VALUE OUR BLACK WOMEN ... countless times I’ve seen directors swap out our women of color for women of lighter complexion, or women with straighter hair ETC . ... IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY AS ARTIST TO STAND UP AND NOT LET THIS HAPPEN .. it’s BEEN time to embrace our woman of color #BlackIsBeautiful
What's odd is the director allowed himself to be thrown under the bus. Anyway, the latest is that Tory actually "directed" this himself. The model is speaking out. She called the ordeal "fake news."
“Where is the scene then if @torylanez wanted me so bad?!!! #fakenews,” Shen the model said. Seems like Tory wanted her and the lighter-skinned model to do separate shoots. “Tory asked for both me and the light skinned girl to do solo shoots. When it was her turn, he said cut the video to make it appear as if it had something to do with race. I know the directors very well,” she continued. So...this is where we at. I am waiting for Tory to speak up. He has not taken down the post so maybe he's just trying to make the point, even if he has to script it out? Do the ends justify the means?
I wish it was "real," because this issue is very real.
