(AllHipHop Rumors) Rapper T.I. and the rest of the country have been dragging pastor Joel Osteen after news spread that he initially refused to open the doors of his megachurch to Houston residents who'd been affected and displaced by Hurricane Harvey.
Early on Joel said that the church wasn't in a safe condition, that evolved to him saying the church was being prepared, to him finally opening to doors, after [what many believe the cause to be] much social media backlash.
Osteen claims that the doors were never closed, but several people recorded videos and posted them to social media showing that the Lakewood Church was closed, and that is wasn't severely flooded.
“We have never closed our doors. We will continue to be a distribution center to those in need. We are prepared to house people once shelters reach capacity. Lakewood will be a value to the community in the aftermath of this storm,” said Joel Osteen to ABC and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Osteen also faced much backlash because many felt that he shouldn't be waiting until shelters reach capacity! Instead they feel like he should have been opening the doors to people immediately.
It didn't take long for T.I. to go in on the senior pastor.
“This is why people (like me) don’t trust the mega churches. How can someone (especially a so called man of God) make 70+Ms a yr TAX FREE from citizens of a city that’s now in distress & in dyer need of food water & shelter NOT OPEN THE DOORS OF GODs HOUSE (supposedly) to help those in need? @Joelosteen YOU SIR ARE A FRAUD!!!! Ministers, preachers, pastors, reverends are all supposed to be SERVANTS sent here to do the LORDS work. Not just sitting back in comfort watching as satin has his way!!!! FOH!!!” said Tip.
Tip feels that we can't continue to give our money away to people like Joel, who he believes pose as preachers, pocket money, and do nothing for the community.
