Police say a Phoenix man confessed to axing his 13-year-old son to death, reports AP. Gary Sherrill, 51, was arrested on New Year's Eve and booked on a first-degree murder charge.
Sherrill's ex-wife called police after he didn't return their child, whom he picked up a day earlier. His mother began to panic after she hadn't been able to reach them. Police entered Sherrill's home and found the boy dead, with stab wounds and lacerations over several parts of his body.
Authorities say Sherrill told police he believed his son was a demon that was going to eat him.
