In an attempt for independent hip-hop

talent to not only be seen but also heard, ABB Records,

a label supporting independent artists for over 5 years, present their 2nd

annual showcase. The showcase, which kicks off the I-5 tour, will be held

in Los Angeles, California on July 14th, 2002 at Sessions (Club Echo). Performances

include ABB artists Defari, 13, Amad Jamal, and Little Brother as well as

Major (Big Yacht Entertainment), the Infamous MC (MyMan Recordings), plus

a few surprise guests.

Helping bring this event to Los

Angeles are hip-hop sponsors Stacks the Vinyl Authority, Mixwell, Vapors Magazine,

and Wild Style Technicians. Last year’s event featured performances by Amad

Jamal, 13, Superstar Quamallah, Fusion Unlimited, and El Da Sensai which packed

the house with industry heads and hip-hop fans alike. People came out not

only to see the show but also to support the independent label best known

for introducing Defari and Dilated Peoples to the world.

“Our goal this year is to reacquaint

people with ABB past and present and introduce our future” states ABB’s Beni

B. “At the end of the day, it’s not about your image in the industry, it’s

all about whether you make good records.”

Since its inception in 1997, ABB

Records has established itself as an independent force to be reckoned with

in the world of hip-hop. Major labels, in particular, have certainly taken

the ABB quality standard seriously: several ABB artists have gone on to ink

major record deals. The label’s accolades include being named Indie Rap Label

of the Year in 1999 and 2000 by Hip-Hop Connection (UK), as well as a nomination

for 1999 Indie Label of The Year by influential radio trade publication Gavin.

ABB’s worldwide rep has been built on a solid foundation of consistency and

musical excellence-not always a given when dealing with the hip-hop industry.
