Legendary Rapper Q-Tip Signs To Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music

Legendary rapper Q-Tip has inked a deal with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint and will release his fourth solo album titled The Last Zulu.

Kanye and Q-Tip already have a working relationship, as Q-Tip produced tracks on West’s last album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Watch the Throne with Jay-Z.

The deal also reunites Q-Tip with former Jive CEO Barry Weiss, who oversaw the label’s release of classic Tribe Called Quest albums like People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, The Low End Theory, Midnight Marauders and others.

In March of 2011, Barry Weiss took over as head of Island/Def Jam, which distributes Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint.

“I’m excited to be a part of the great iconic Def Jam label,” Q-Tip said in a statement. “I’m humbled to be a part of such a storied history.  To reconnect with Barry Weiss is a great thing. As far as G.O.O.D. Music, I’m excited to solidify my working relationship with Kanye, and I look forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead in our partnership. I will do my best to present the most cutting edge music I can.”

According to Q-Tip, he is currently in the recording studio working on material for The Last Zulu, which has no release date as of press time.

“I am thrilled to be working with Q-Tip once again,” said Barry Weiss. “He is a respected voice in the music community as shown by his acclaimed solo albums and countless contributions to the work of other artists.  His creativity continues to surpass all boundaries of hip-hop, R&B, pop, and jazz. We welcome Q-Tip to the G.O.O.D. Music / Island Def Jam family.”

  • Tip is gonna make some more classic shit with Ye.His solo albums have been great actually.Consequence is disgusted

LOL! And Cons is Q-Tip’s cousin – has worked extensively with both of them.

Cons is at home thinking that all roads lead to Kanye now.

G.O.O.D., now maybe we can get that STANDARD (Tip and Common) album!

  • I guess that’s a good fit for him.. but my thing is…

You think if you’ve been in the game as long as Busta, Q-TIp and Juicy
J.. you’d be in BOSS POSITIONS of your own.. not signing to those who
    came after you.

It’s like being 40 and working for a 16 year old manager at McDonalds.

    No disrespect but damn!

Yea I get what your saying, but some people don’t want to be the head of a label or have any say in the business portion.  They just want to make good music. (no pun intended)

      •  I guess so. In my mind.. “just making music”… is kind of like “just having a job”. Sure you might get paid really well.. but you’re at the whim of someone else.

With how fickle these fans are now a days he may never again make money actually selling music.

just another future episode of BEHIND THE MUSIC –
as talented and intellectual as Q-Tip is … business wise he’s DUMB AS DOORKNOBS.

Every time I turn around you young boys always talking about how old a brother isbecause he’s still in the game. Get off that bullshit. To be real not every MC wants to run shit or should run shit just like one brother said it’s about making good music not bullshit ,I commend Tip for still keeping it live. For you cats that haven’t seen 40 yet kill that noise cause you aint saying nothing.Always trying to shoot a nigga down. Hope you make it to 40 shorty.

    •  Not sure who you were referring to… but fyi I’m over 40… been here since the jams in the parks.

My point is that the same way you should have shit put away for yourself by a certain age… you should have SOMETHING under your belt so that you can do it YOURSELF without having to sign with someone who came after you.

But like you stated.. everyone doesn’t want to run shit just as there are people who are happy working for others instead of trying to set up their own situations. I guess there wouldn’t be an armed forces if everyone strived to be a General instead of a grunt.

I got you my brother trust me I was probably wit ya up at the rucker haha but for real all respect to u no funny shit toward u I just get so tired of the younger generation and folks our age saying bad shit.Jalil from whodini is my godbrother so I learned a lot from him and ex and doc so knowing how fucked up jive was is why I feel some groups back then sacraficed fucked deals to get a good deal somewhat then way back. I don’t see tip as running nothing just rocking that jay z shit fucked the roc and def jam up. We know for real def jam was ricks baby russell was the face and mouthpiece. Anyway I’m glad u responded shows me my generation is talking I’m an artist / producer since 84 so I’m wit u just hope these younginz learn some respect.

well said Slaughtr. Young boys these days dont go by skill now, they see old rappers as fathers and think there too old to rap even when they helped laid the foundation for young artists

    •  I respect wat u said 100% and I’m only 22. My generation needa pay homage 2 de dudes who came b4 us!!! Its a matter of respect!!!

  • mrgibson

Only in hip-hop do cats constantly bring up age like it’s supposed to matter.  Not every cat is built to run shit, some dudes don’t have the business sense for something like that.  Good look for Q-Tip.

  • Q-tip been on point bought his last album years back. .  . But Kanye needs to stop playing and sign KIDZ IN THE HALL first of all Naledge flow and delivery is outstanding I would say he’s one of the best underrated mc’s plus they are from chigago.. .  With Kanye leading they could finally be where they belong at in this industry . ..
