Tupac Hologram Performs Alongside Dr. Dre And Snoop Dogg At Coachella 2012

(AllHipHop News) For the fans, it was likely epic, exciting, and spooky all rolled up in one. On Sunday night (April 15), at the Coachella music festival, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg made history by bringing out a performing hologram of the late rapper, Tupac Shakur.

After Dr. Dre’s performed his part of “California Love,” the lights went off and a moving image of Tupac appeared and greeted Dre, Snoop, and the Coachella crowd. Hologram Tupac then performed “Hail Mary” in what some called an eerie and chilling fashion, and then lightened the mood with a duet with Snoop Dogg for “2 of America’s Most Wanted,” in which the image danced around the stage. Once that song was finished, the image of Tupac disappeared.

Video of the hologram commanded instant hits online, as fans on social networks heavily discussed the topic while watching the Coachella live stream on YouTube. See the video below.

Hologram Tupac wasn’t the only posthumous detail of the 2012 Coachella Festival. Rumors swirled last week about whether late Hip-Hop producer/singer Nate Dogg would play some role in the event.

That’s how you do it… Looking forward to the Scarface “Smile” collabo on stage!

  • Is this going to be a new trend?  Let me find out I paid for some concert tickets and these artists are using fake images of themselves!  No bueno.

  • Big Crimes

I thought they were going to use old video footage but it was computer animated. Looked kinda whack. Either way i hope this doesn’t catch on…

  • Black Exodus

whoa…crazy…good stuff…and I know most real pac fans appreciated it…as his mother needed to sign off using his likeness.

  • Who What Why When

today Tupac, tomorrow alien invasions and god knows what other things that will produce “reactions” in people…question everything or complain and/or die from it later.

  • dre always know how to put on a show… now about that detox

    • Romia Blue

in his death, Biggie’s death, Freaky Tah, Jam Master J, Proof, J-Dilla and all the hip hop legends we’ve lost in the almost 16 yrs that Pac has passed since, NOT INCLUDING the fact that Dre has also lost his own son, had Pac still been alive today, do you really think Dre and Pac would still be holding this “enemy” grudge that you just pointed out?

That’s all you could find to say though so…hey, enjoy that

      • TruthSerum

Who are you to say he wouldnt tho??

Its disrespectful to make a dead mans decisions for him, not to mention they computer altered his voice to shout a festival that didnt even exist when he was alive, its not right, smh @ the whole situation, Dre and interscope hit a new low with this

      • Romia Blue

I didn’t say he wouldn’t… I’m saying think outside of the box. with ALL of the deaths that have happened in the past 15+… do you think Pac would’ve squashed this petty ish…ESPECIALLY in light of all the mediocre so called beefs that have come and gone? Do you really think he would’ve kept a beef up for 15 years? IJS

you didn’t even like the performance so why you jumpin in, I have no clue. Hologram aside, I can’t say that I like it or hate it. It’s just an amazing thing to see could be done.

      • I think you’re right. I know brothas… And Pac was a real brotha. He wouldn’t have held that grudge for longer then several more years past ’96. It would be old news by now.

      • Benjidoggy

If any beef could have been squashed it was this one. Tupac was only mad because he left Death Row for stuff that Suge started. They were cool when dre was there, and then mad afterwards. It is almost similiar to when Dre was beefing with Ice cube when he left, and that was because of stuff thar Easy did. And they squashed the beef.

      • It (Hologram Pac’s voice) wasn’t computer altered..That was “The Realist”..Former Death Row Artist and Pac sound alike..Google him if you’re not familiar…I know because I know him and he got paid to do the entire performance as he is the one who fills in the adlibs on ALL the unfinished 2pac albums to date. Know what you’re talking about please. No disrespect meant.

I was told you will never get ahead in life because you’re living in the past. (THE FUTURE IS NOW!!!)

      • adam pitterson

Spoken like someone who hasnt lived a lot of years…I guess history class is just a waste of time then huh? Just because the future is now, doesnt mean we have to accept garbage.

      • LetsBeRealpeople

        Amen…Amen…Say that.

  • Technology is scary

  • water_ur_seeds

Gave Me goose bumps! Was amazing to see, Pac still got mad energy and charisma on stage… Was hoping to see Nate Dogg to make an appearance to… Dre and Snoop woulda made up with Pac long time ago…

Onside note, reminds Me of the Klitschko ring entrance with Fraiser, Tyson and Lewis etc

  • Romia Blue

I can’t say that i like or hate it…just that this is creepy as hell and just messed me up for the rest of the day. I’m sitting here with tears in my eyes reliving that Friday, September the 13th…Never another

  • that was one of the most innovative stuff i ever seen.
i hope Jay sees this and bring BIG back out.
that right there would be legendary.
if Jay has a big concert in NYC and bring BIG out wit that hologram, them niggas would go bananas!

  • simply amazing ty coachella, for making this possible tupac achieved levels no rapper has yet to overcome. He was not just a rapper, his legacy is FOREVER. For all those who are sour and bitter over his projection you all can wait till they bring biggie to life if they even chose to. The reality is his image stands for more than music he equals inspiration to those in need and his struggles and pains are reflected in his lyrics which made him the BEST RAPPER EVER! Not one rapper has accomplished and given to the community that he did in his 25 years on the planet.. embrace tupac and don’t disrespect the dead.

  • Pac wasnt that ripped lol. And his movements were repeated too much. Freaky shit tho, not too sure how I feel about this one. Hope it doesnt become a trend . Let t he dead rest in peace.

(also spelled Simone) is a 2002 science fiction comedy film written, produced and directed by Andrew Niccol. It stars Al Pacino, Catherine Keener, Rachel Roberts, Evan Rachel Wood, Winona Ryder and Rebecca Romijn.

this movie is where they got the idea from..

  • I wonder what happened with the Nate Dogg estate and why they wouldn’t allow the Nate Doog Hologram.

    • Tim Sanchez

Don’t think it had anything to do with the estate. Daz said that they had a hologram made but they switched to a video tribute at the last minute. It’s probably too soon for Nate. I would imagine that would have been really tough for Snoop to be up there with a Nate hologram.

  • MrTroyMercy

Outlawz should’ve been up there performing … that’s what’s Pac would’ve loved . This shet is mad spooky though ,lmao and dope at the same time . Now watch this gonna lead cats to doing shows that they normally cancel cause they couldn’t make … this wwas dope . I been to two Coachella’s and they be dope because of the abundance of talents … I’m trying to get on that next one yo , not rapping but doing my DJ ish … if my label can get a artist on there , even better.

  • LetsBeRealpeople

Afeni gave permission. Yes, Dre and Tupac had beef. Not like his beef with Jay-Z, Bad Boy, Nas, Chino, MOBB  DEEP and such, but let’s say you right, there was beef. Afeni would have to speak on her son’s behalf, so what she says goes. If anything, you can’t bury Tupac. Personally, how Dre went about it was the right way. Unlike your beloved Jay-Z how washes over other people’s works and tries to down play Tupac’s beef eith him…Dr. Dre did it right. Tupac already called it on people who try to darken his shine. The game needs him, but he is much like a Moses in the game; When you start talking Tupac, you start talking about what matters. So keep his armed raised in this wilderness an make these wack ass chumps shake. F-the throne and get on to real talk in Hip Hop. It’s not idol worship, it’s shaking open a murder case on Tupac and Hip Hop.

  • kuruptizzle323

this is so sick i would pay money to see pac in concert as long as his momma approves it for the real fans. all money goes to pacs organizations and momma fully support his momma doing this
all these weak fans dont know what they talk about KEEP PAC ALIVE through his music, his mom, and keep his center going! LONG LIVE PAC! the god of rap!

  •   I’m sure this hologram thing will get out of hand, but in this instance
it was a cool thing, for one, it wasn’t advertised so it wasn’t done
for some malicious greedy intent, and it was just two songs, its really
no different that playing a video of an artist during a show to pay
homage, it was just done in a more cutting edge way. People are already
paying to see concerts at movie theaters. In my opinion people paying to
see a DJ live is far worse.

hip hop let 5 minutes of a hologram outshine most performances in the past decade

Expect to see more and “bigger” things like this in the near future…  Project Bluebeam, underway…

  • kingjoe08
