Senator Holds Press Conference Over Lil Wayne Comments On New York

(AllHipHop News) A New York State Senator Held a press conference yesterday (August 22), over comments rap superstar Lil Wayne made to MTV.

Lil Wayne has been vocal over the past several years about his sour attitude towards New York, after the NYPD arrested the rapper in 2007, after his first performance in the city, at the Beacon Theater.

As a result, Lil Wayne was hit with weapons violations and subsequently spent eight months on Rikers Island.

“Flat out: I don’t like New York,” the rapper told MTV in an interview on Monday (August 2o).

Senator Malcolm A. Smith held the press conference at Father Duffy Square in Manhattan, where he demanded an apology from Lil Wayne.

Senator Smith, from Queens, said that he was angered by Lil Wayne’s comments about the city that never sleeps.

“If you don’t like New York,” Mr. Smith said, “you don’t have to come to New York. You don’t have to sell your products here. And perhaps we won’t come to your concerts,” Senator Smith said, alluding to a potential boycott of the rapper’s shows.

The news conference was held at Father Duffy Square in Manhattan, where Senator Smith demanded an apology from the rapper.

“New Yorkers are forgiving people,” Senator Smith said. “We’re prepared to forgive Lil Wayne if in fact he makes a sincere apology.”

  • I agree….Say what you want about New York but you talk shit and we will respond immediately.

    • freedom of speech is our constitution right and lil wayne has every right to voice his opinion mr.dior and new york will lock you up behind bull crap violations.every person has ah right to bear arms,in this case lil wayne was not in possession of the firearm,so he missed days out of his kids life for nothing, and now politics…..lil wayne concerts brings in tax dollars for education, streets and drainage, etc………if new york bans lil wayne new york loose tax dollars, and other stars tax dollars as well, and this whats gone make it hard on you and your`s which makes it tough on the whole state, and definitely the black, and Latino community

  • senator needs to lose his job if he has time to waste on this bullshit

  • Shit, after doing time, and arrested by HipHop Police, I’m sure he doesn’t love the City of NY. But he always says he loves his fans…this Senator is just grabbing attention, using Wayne’s fame for the spotlight.

  • You all are idiots…It’s the Senators job to defend the City, and or State…….He represents public policy decisions that affect the quality of our daily lives…..He can be the reason why Lil Wayne is banned from entering New York City again.

    • Bang-Up Job

This dude think a senator is like a gladiator or some shit. His job is to promote the interests of his constituents. Gettin some meaningless apology over something that doesn’t need apologizing – free country last time i checked as far as who you like – don’t further nobody’s needs or feed or educate anyone. He just wasting taxpayers’ dollars son.

  • Nice thing to say when Drake just caught a huge case in NYC……It’s not going to be pretty for Drake.

  • The Senator is standing up for his state, what needs to happen is people stop giving this little clown any more power by listening to his ignorance. You got caught in new york holding a weapon illegally? Thats your own fault dummy, trying using intelligence instead of blaming others for your problems. When white people come up to me and say, “It seems like black people want to blame everyone but themselves” and I get all pissed off, its stupidness like this they are referring to. They lump me in with idiots like Lil Wayne and THAT pisses me off more then anything

    • Bang-Up Job

It’s ya boy who givin lil dude power by aksin for an apology dunny. I thought queens dudes aint care if you like em. Why this guy caught a feelin instead of serving his constituents.

    • That’s what I am saying, now everyone is attacking this Senator…Lil Wayne is a public figure and for him to say something like that shows that he also doesn’t care about the safety of his artists who travel to the City from time to time….Birdman need to be a real boss and let wayne know that he is hurting his business by saying random statements like that.

  • WillVetterGoodin
