Today is Jay-Z’s 43rd birthday. Happy Birthday, Jigga! The man himself revealed a few of his favorite things about the Barclays Center, where his Brooklyn Nets play, in a recent interview with GQ. During the interview, Jigga exposed that he had “fought” the NBA on a number of things, including the herringbone style floors on the court. According to Jay, he got the last laugh and proved the NBA wrong. Find out exactly how far he had to go to do it below:
The jerseys: “All-black everything! And the lettering–the typography reminds you of the old subway. It’s classic.”
The court: “It’s herringbone, which is crazy. In fact, the NBA fought me on it. They said if it gets shot on TV, the lines will mess up the screen. I’m like, this ain’t 1988–we’ve got HD. We ended up taking it to the old arena in New Jersey to test it.”
Barclays Center: “It’s beautiful, amazing, really well-done. It’s just classy. It’s still an arena, so there’s only so much you can do. But for an arena, it’s actually really beautiful.”
Jay-Z also dropped a documentary about the Barclay’s Center today on his Life+Times website. The documentary, entitled Where I’m From, follows Jay from the inception of the arena to his groundbreaking arena opening concerts:
Side note – Jigga’s better half, Beyonce also has her own documentary on the way and has just released the teaser trailer for the upcoming HBO special. Beyonce directed this project herself, and we hear that she used a lot of her personal footage from her laptop and her personal home videos for the documentary. Check out the teaser trailer below:
Maybe this will finally put an end to those surrogate mother rumors. Show that belly, Bey! Oh, and hopefully Bey will finally reveal a clear image of her and Jay-Z’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. The little girl is nearly one, and all we’ve gotten was the initial photos and those grainy paparazzi shots. The documentary premieres on February 16 on HBO.
