Time Served: Ja Rule Readies Release from Jail and Return to Rap

(AllHipHop News) Queens raised rapper Ja Rule, born Jeffrey Atkins, is on the verge of being released from prison, after serving time for the illegal possession of a firearm in Manhattan, New York in 2010.

According to the Associated Press, while his sentence for the firearm was shortened for good behavior, Ja Rule will go straight into federal custody to finish his sentence for tax evasion.

Although the sentences ran concurrently, Ja Rule still has a little less than six months of a 28 month-long tax evasion sentence, and he could end up serving the remainder of sentence in a half-way house.

While in jail, Ja Rule was on relatively good behavior only picking up two misbehavior reports for unauthorized phone calls in February 2012.

Ja Rule completed his work assignments on lawn and grounds crews and even participated in education programs according to his attorney, Stacey Richman.

Ja Rule will likely be looking to get back to work soon as he still owes the IRS over $1 million in back taxes and unpaid fines.

In 2010 New York City police found a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun in the back door of Ja Rule’s $250,000  car after being pulled over for speeding.

Then in March 2011 in federal court Ja Rule admitted that he was negligent in paying taxes on more than $3 million of money he earned between 2004 and 2006 while he living in Saddle River, N.J..

“I in no way attempted to deceive the government or do anything illegal,” Ja Rule told the judge. “I was a young man who made a lot of money — I’m getting a little choked up — I didn’t know how to deal with these finances, and I didn’t have people to guide me, so I made mistakes.”

No word on Ja Rule’s plans for linking up with Murder Inc., but he has said he is working on Pain is Love 2.

Sad Part is he is never going to be popping like he used to and believe it or not 50 didn’t kill his career he killed it when he switched his format to get more mainstream popularity contrary to what people believe!

    • He didn’t switch it, if you are aware of how the industry works you have to switch when they ask you to. Its a matter of he who pays the piper dictates the tune.

Its a case of I’m your boss switch or get fired.

      • BossBeaux

Not denying what your saying all i am doing is pointing out why he won’t be relevant again I feel where your coming from though!

      • Agree with you too, to make himself relevant he is going to have to switch over to what society wants nowadays. Maybe if he does a Rick Ross and raps about how he was a mob boss in jail dealing Kilos et al 😉

The old Ja rule stuff won’t do it for him nowadays. He may have some old fans but its about keeping existing fans and acquiring new ones which is a hard task to balance.

Just off the topic: They say chief keef is coming out a baptised dude. What made keef what he is today is what he raps about and the person he is. That’s what made him marketable. His label are prob saying WTF and I can honestly say they wouldn’t want him to change. Lets not forget Keef is an investment that needs to pay a huge return.

Changing over is a big risk some people pull it off others don’t.

I think rule should forget about music and stick to acting. He is a good actor after al.

Some peeps may agree, others may not, its just my opinion.

u a gay Dominican that eat mens ass hole! end ur life!

      • dominicancoke

Awsome insult you get a life now

  • His catalog is long enough with enough hits he’ll always be able to get tour money, he’s not going to be a main act but mid acts make good money on the right tour. If ja could give us a few more of them “New York” kinda tracks he might have a chance at getting a second run.

  • WillVetterGoodin

I can already see him dropping a flop real soon.
