Rick Ross Releases Official Apology; Reebok Comments

(AllHipHop News) The furor over Rick Ross’ Molly-Gate continues to swell. Yesterday, Reebok dropped him from a lucrative contract. Twitter was a buzz as rappers such as Slim Thug and Meek Mill supported Ross while others defended women’s rights.

Now, Rick Ross is speaking and apologizing. In an official statement released today, the rapper states:

“Before I am an artist, I am a father, a son, and a brother to some of the most cherished women in the world. So for me to suggest in any way that harm and violation be brought to a woman is one of my biggest mistakes and regrets.

As an artist, one of the most liberating things is being able to paint pictures with my words. But with that comes a great responsibility. And most recently, my choice of words was not only offensive, it does not reflect my true heart. And for this, I apologize. To every woman that has felt the sting of abuse, I apologize.

I recognize that as an artist I have a voice and with that, the power of influence. To the young men who listen to my music, please know that using a substance to rob a woman of her right to make a choice is not only a crime, it’s wrong and I do not encourage it. To my fans, I also apologize if I have disappointed you. I can only hope that this sparks a healthy dialogue and that I can contribute to it.”

Reebok has also released a formal statement on Rick Ross.

“Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand. Unfortunately, Rick Ross has failed to do so. While we do not believe that Rick Ross condones sexual assault, we are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse. At this time, it is in everyone’s best interest for Reebok to end its partnership with Mr. Ross.”

Do you accept his apology?

  • We all make mistakes, take the lesson and move on.

    • Bumpy Johnson

random thought ..murda inc use to actually make money and was really popular and their name was “MURDA’ INC.” wow!…anywayz yea dont fkk with white women and move on from your mistakes.

      • Celz

Murder Inc. was a gang inside the Italian Mafia that carried out assassinations i.e. making hits. Murder Inc. chose their name as a play on words and the record label signed several successful artists to make hits.

Is American and especially Urban America’s fascination with crime and violence wrong. YES. But Rick Ross trying to swag out rape is a new low period. Biggie said WAY worse shyt than Ross line but every time I heard Biggie mention his foul shyt it was 1. Not a single, 2. Not a party track, 3. Not swaggin or nonchalantly bragging, and 4. The context was clearly on some exaggeration/ fantasy shyt.

Stop defendin this shyt. And so what even if other niccas have done it we need to start somewhere and this lyin fake mob ass marketing scheme of a rapper is as good as anywhere. If Ross loses his career so what? He can still get a job cuz he was the police not having beef with them..

      • Bumpy Johnson

i was not defending it this time….i just was thinkin of the shit niggas got let slide with…..n yea i know bout murder I.N.C from the 20s n shit…..

      • Celz

You right though don’t fucc wit the snow bunnies niccas still swear Kobe is a rapist when really he just did the same shyt Bill Clinton did..

      • true, now they want uncle murda to change his name, and other dudes with similar names, like killa mike dropped the killa but you have rock bands like killers out… so its a funny business… but hey adapt or die, learn and live.

      • Bumpy Johnson

seriously fkk entertainment industry ….damn man where can i find a damn island with out all this bullcrap

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

and if you remember gotti ended up changing the name of his lable to THE INC because of the conflicts with his record company name 😉

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

Nas had to title his album “untitled”

  • MuthaFuka Jones

I stopped reading the apology, because it’s apparent that Ross didn’t write (edited) that. His P.R. did. Verbiage is too on point.

    • kpman80

So you saying a black man can’t be articulate?

      • Q.

No, he’s just saying Leonard isn’t that articulate. BAWSE!

      • saying rick ross is not articulate

      • andone

I’m no ross fan, however if u pay attention to his speech during interviews u can see he has a very strong vocabulary due to his college education background and good upbringing… But the sad part is I simply can’t take nothing he speaks on seriously, dude trys too hard every time and all I can do is lm@o when I hear how dilusional/overly exaggerated he comes off… Its funny to me how he wins over these simple minded ppl who willingy call themselves fans of his “art” lol, who lied to him and let him think he’s an artist hahaaaahahaaaa… u see, that’s the same kinda sh!t I’m talkin about even his apologies are unnecessarily fancy and extravagant… SMH this n!gg@ jus doesn’t know when to give it a rest!

      • Educated Brotha From The Bank

lmao…Rick Ross went to Albany State…..a small black college in south Georgia. A dog could get accepted there.

      • andone

that doesnt change the fact that he has a college background tho… and if i had to guess, he probably picked up on it during his time studying towards a degree(making good grades to stay on the football team) and not only from all the mafia/gangster movies he has watched… also im willing to bet that although the school may not be highly ranked, its alumni still produces success stories… besides that we all know rozay was a good guy wit a stable family and fairly accomplished parents, its not that hard to put 2 and 2 together… ur giving him too much credit if u think he learned it in the hood or that he is actually being sincere for that matter… point is this n!gg@ is a fraud/impostor on both sides of the fence, its no secret my “educated brotha”!

      • $28825362

We always say we want Black men to go to college then when they do some up tight Black a$$hole comes along with salt.

      • MuthaFuka Jones

        MuthaFuka……I’M black…….

      • kpman80

        That’s what makes it worse

    • $28825362

      • MuthaFuka Jones

Killed me on the typo….. LMAO!!

      • Celz

+1 niccas be swearin if you make a typo it invalidates your whole point.. Just correct it and move on lol

    • Dontoure Smith

Right that? Says the guy who said the rapper isn’t articulate enough to write(is the actual word) that statement.

      • MuthaFuka Jones

        Yeah, I killed myself, lol.

    • I wanted to like your comment so damn bad. But that one typo did me in. Got damn.

      • MuthaFuka Jones

Yeah, I killed myself on the typo……LOL!! I’m done posting for the day!

    • digitallife

Really? What celebrity do you know writes any of their own statements? Also you assume the man can’t write? You might want to look at what his parents do for a living, at their degrees, and then the man’s own education. Not all rappers are uneducated or come from uneducated homes.

  • Eli Pinilla

Damn g, why u aint just say this off jump???? Maybe he gets a new deal with converse or fila lol

    • orlando jackson

hahaha you funny what deal you got ?? stupid clown

    • Q.

      FAT FARM…NO “PH.”

  • BulldogCG

Im going to use this in class monday for discussion, a rapper actually apologizing is groundbreaking. My students need to hear this. And i agreee with Ross on that at least, this is an opportunity to spark debate about respecting women and the like. I see that many young male listeners do believe a rapper is talking about a female every time the bisch word is used. Many times they are talking about police or the euro dominated system, or fake people in general, I mean some of the biggest bisches I know are dudes. Hip hop and rap lovers need to take the opportuity to define its terms, especially to the youth, the metaphors get lost on many of them today. They simple dont have the stamina to listen to black start or dead prez, even Tupac sometimes (or insert your favorite artist) its too deep, and they dont understand the structures. Anyway just saying was have to dialogue as much as possible and create educated responsible listeners. I think those of us that want to preserve it have to define ways to do so, and educating its listeners is a great start. Re-direct the hate to the systems, oppression, and rising out not each other and women.

    • Q.

…Less of an apology, more of a PR clean-up.

Gives thanks to the people for hitting the devil where it hurts…IN THEIR POCKETS.

      • BulldogCG

yea, but that aint the point, I dont care about ross or why he did anything, just the opportunity to educate and start a discussion in a way relevant to my students, and the art I love.

      • Q.

More power to you, bro. Stay positive.

    • Khris Hutson

Yeah, I pulled up the original articles in my class to discuss the consequences and inconsistency of consequences of freedom of speech. The kids are super desensitized though. When asked whether or not Reebok should have dropped them, most said “it’s not like he actually raped somebody” or “rappers say worse, so why are they trippin’ off this one?”

I did have a few argue that maybe someone was just trying to draw a line and he just happened to be a victim while even fewer took note of the business aspect. It was a cool discussion. I’m interested to see how they’ll react to the apology.

  • Oknas

who wrote that for him? lol

  • G’DUP

It aint sincere and its too late. Yeh nigga has regrets, the regret of getting dropped and having his pocket hurt! If he cared bout negative influence, even worse than rape is the harm of the drugs and murder he glorifies. Stick a fork in that fat nigga already!

  • therealest1

Bootleg apology like his bootleg ass rap gimmick shit.

  • $28825362

Only said sorry after they pulled that deal and it hurt his bank account. Fuk this clown

    • jacksjus

Yeah the timing was obvious. He had his chance and didn’t even come close to this apology.

  • I think Rick should rhyme that in his next album.

    Too late Rick.

  • Calico Joe

Why apologize if he felt he did nothing wrong?

    • Dick Pimples

Because he did do something wrong. Even though it wasn’t a big deal to him.

  • tyshawn ward

    Well at least he

  • Finally.

  • Darren Myt Collins

If he would have only did this sooner instead…come with that condescending half ass apology he would have saved himself millions. I don’t think the lyric and the protest is what made reebok drop him….ITS that half ass way of responding to it that caused them to drop

  • tyshawn ward

Well at least this is over with ….tired of hearing about it (In my sarcastic voice) now all the people in the world that felt slighted by his comments or should I say lyrics can all sleep now they can say yes reebok dropped Rick Ross he’s been punished yesssssss…. maybe they should just make all rappers apologize I’m pretty sure Nas or jay Z have said something at least this bad. This is crazy they won’t be satisfied until hiphop is no longer … . Freedom of speech, half the people whining an crying about it have absolutely no life , they just can’t . Because with all the stuff goin on in the world we are really discussing something so petty……..

  • Dick Pimples

K, good. Now, I actually respect Ricky Rozay a bit more.

  • JusNathaniel

The haters are loving every damn bit of this Lool

  • Cel

Nope. Sorry, I am not saying I don’t want Rick not to eat, but I don’t buy this shit. Brothers are always sorry when their money is fucked up or their freedom is threatened. I just wish more of his character he speaks so highly of was reflected in the music he makes.

    • Celz

Damn you had me like when the f did I write this? But good points.. +1 sounds like some shyt I would say….

  • Educated Brotha From The Bank

yall know damn well Rick Ross didnt write that shit

  • Michael Thompson II

Ross should just give it up.

  • jacksjus

“Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand.” Wow so his image before this song fit your values? SMH!

    • Chances are they didn’t even do much homework on him, they just knew he was a big name who could get these stuntin ass niggas to throw bread away on their shoes cuz wasn’t no one checkin for no Reebok for a hot ass min. They prob. got someone checkin out his catalog right damn now like “Wtf is WRONG with us?!”

Salute the white-skinned Emenim for building a rap career off of rape/murder lyrics directed at women and never having to apologize.

These sick-minded and freakish haters are overjoyed with this corny witch-hunt but they need to keep in mind that Rozay is still a multi-millionaire C.E.O and a Reebok shoe deal is not going to make or break him….he will simply sell his shares in Reebok and reinvest it into his other endorsements like Ciroc & Belaire Rose.

Salute Tyler the Creator for building a career off rap/murder lyrics and being considered the darling of the industry and a white-fan favorite.

    • Banksy

Here we go I was waiting for someone to turn this into a racial thing. So when Reebok signed Rick it wasn’t a white or black thing but the moment this nigga fucks up and say’s some stupid shit than in true nigga fashion lets not take responsibility for our actions instead lets turn in Farakhan and scream out how the white devil is doing us wrong. STFU. The nigga fucked up and got fired because of it. It has nothing to do with race, it has everything to do with being stupid and being checked for your stupidity. Grow up lil nigga, not everything that happens in this world is racially related and not every stupid nigga is Nelson Mandela. BTW there is not another rapper in this world white or black that has been protested against than Eminem.

      • Isaac Hayes

        Man sit yo dumbass down

      • Banksy

        Go sell crack

      • Isaac Hayes

Stop chasing waterfalls stick to balls and the D!@k$ that your use to!!

      • NEWSKULL

        yes sir!…

    • digitallife

Eminem has only endorsed one product..a car brand..long after he cleaned up his image and while his hometown was trying to pick itself back off the ground due to the economy.

      • NEWSKULL

He had a deal with Nike…

no Sir!… first of all Eminem never promoted “RAPE”… if he did it was probably in story telling plot … and Eminem in all his murderous lyrics had always a laughing ad-lib to let people know it is a joke… proof is he killed Dr Dre numerous times in his lyrics and we all laughed at it…

Now he apologized not only because Reebok dropped him, but he also feared that CIROC and the others might follow suit… he did say “putting molly in her “drink” ”

I believe it is the verb “enjoy” that trigger the whole thing… you put molly in her drink and you ENJOYED THAT!…

    • Celz

So you support this fake ass wannabe corporate marketing scheme ass rapper? This niccas whole image is based on what White people THINK YOU want to hear. Smh find some real shyt to be passionate about..

  • Reblogged this on thehiltonburnellfiles and commented:
There’s a official apology. I accepted it. It’s happens when famous people do bad things in Hollywood. I totally accepted Rozay’s apology. I don’t give a damn about what peoples says. They need to can it.

  • eddieklown

He couldn’t dodge that bullet. He Should have said that in the 1st place… The Teflon Don has been touched!

    • Man get off the bs fam, the nigga brought every bit of the criticism on himself with all the lies and fugazery, quit playin. Shit his lies discredit him more than any blog comment ever could, his ass shoulda came correct and he wouldn’t have so many feet on his neck…ain’t just talkin about this specific situation either, I’m speakin on this fraud’s entire career. You niggas kill me actin like all the criticism is just unwarranted and out the damn blue, remind me of them broads that’s so helplessly “in love” that their dude could crease another bitch right in front of their face and they’d STILL be in denial…smh

  • Vinsanity

Dumb, now lets make Alice Cooper apologize for every album hes ever dropped. I know it ant hip hop but its on the same level. Lets be fair.

  • IToldYoMommaYouAintSh_t

Maybe that ‘Bitch don’t Kill my Vibe’ freestyle following the rape issue wasn’t such a good idea. He thought he was slick with that one.

  • ddsdavey

This guy is the fakest weakest bitch ever.First he lies about bein a C.O. then admits it THEN he denies the rape lyrics, gets dropped by reebock THEN apologises for the lyrics.Bitch be a man in the first instance, people would have had alot more respect for him if he had just said…”fuck it yeah i was a C.O.,now what!”

  • Rather he wrote that shit or not I’m sure that’s how he really feeling at this point. The bar wasn’t cool in the song but damn, y’all see through ANY good just to find bad (all for some damn comments).

    • Guarantee if Reebok hadn’t took their bread from him he wouldn’t be feelin shit though…

  • 80s_Reaganomics_kidz

But its cool for Reebok to endorse the cocaine, murder, drug abuse and the likes of everything else this FRAUD spews out of his mouth? GTFOH! Reebok can suck a D!ck!
They knew his lyrics were negative when they offered him the damn contract!

  • Nemesis_Enforcer

Next I’d like an apology for glamorizing drug dealing, murder, and drug use in general. Dont just stop with rape.

  • Bumpy Johnson

Reebok is saying his pro drug dealing standards lived up to their brand and values..

  • What’s another hip-hop site besides WSHH, VladTV, and AHH (excluding ThisIs50)?

  • keep calm get money

So let me get this straight…Reebok only dropped this guy after he claimed to date rape a woman just to solidify they don’t condone rape, but…Ross been rapping about killing people and selling drugs, is that any better than date rape? Somebody needs to call Reebok out on their hypocrisy.

  • Smashit

A PR firm wrote that apology because his fat ass too stupid to be that sincere & Reebok fired Mr. Ross so they still employing Mr. Roberts?
White cooperations love to make money off negative black people but let a N*gga say one wrong word & they step side ways & turn they back with the quickness – wasn’t hiring someone who claims to be a big time cartel leader to represent they sneakers to kids a mistake from the start??

  • WillVetterGoodin

How is ross gonna write an apology when his hands tied up with cheeseburgers and lobster rolls?

  • Negro Peligro

“Reebok holds our partners to a high standard”. I CAN’T EVEN BEGIN TO TRY TO UNDERSTAND WHERE THAT BAR IS. Also who the hell bought some Rick Ross’s. Also who the hell wore something reebok cause Ross wore it.
