50 Cent’s ‘Power’ TV Show Headed To Starz In 2014

(AllHipHop News) Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s new series Power, the story of a wealthy nightclub owner in New York City, was picked up by Starz for its 2014 programming schedule. The show was created by Courtney Kemp Agboh (The Good Wife, The Bernie Mac Show), and 50 will be one of the program’s executive producers.

“This is a passion project for me, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have found a home with Starz. I look forward to working with this incredibly talented team on making Power a hit show,” said 50.

Power centers around James “Ghost” St. Patrick a businessman who is trying to build his brand into an empire. His main complication to achieving that goal is his other profession. Ghost is also the city’s biggest drug kingpin. The husband and father most figure out how to leave his criminal life behind and transition into the legit world.

“We are thrilled to add Power to our growing original programming lineup for 2014,” said Starz CEO Chris Albrecht. “There is a rawness and soul to the character of Ghost as he struggles to live between these two worlds that we believe will leave an indelible mark on the audience and stay with them after the credits roll.”

Power was commissioned for 8 episodes by StarzCBS Television Studios will produce the program with Jackson, Mark Canton (300), and Randall Emmett (16 Blocks) serving as executive producers. Kemp Agboh will also take on the position of showrunner.

“Starz has given our team an opportunity to explore a world of beauty, luxury, danger and death, all against the struggle of one man to define his nature and his soul,” said Courtney Kemp Agboh. “While the power and peril of Ghost’s world are specific, we hope to address the truly universal questions we all face when we look in the mirror: who am I? Where am I going? Who do I want to become?”

Production for Power is set to begin later this year. The series will debut in 2014.

lol 50 ain’t backing down… can’t deny that in the cheese race Diddy and Jay are running laps around him … But he might make one of them Vitamin water type of deal in a couple of years with SK and/or SMS Audio… if that happen, he will be billionaire before them…
now what happened to “MUSIC IS MY FIRST LOVE” Mr. 50 Cent?… Please make a deal with Blackberry and do the same shit Jay is doing with Samsung… And drop that freaking album…

    • Montezuma1

How many songs can he make about beef in the hood while screaming the names of guns he never owned? He talks about coke and the topic is Molly. He’s outdated. Pimpin Curly better off making an album.

if anyone believes Jay z is better business man than 50 you’re not really thinking oh yeah sure Samsung deal sounds crazy but a tv show, that’s picked up by a big Network, come on 50 could be looking at $1million an episode lol for just making the production and writing the theme of the show along with other writers, 50 is being creative and doing things he likes oh yeah sure Ciroc sounds good but 50 doesn’t drink so why endorse alchohol isn’t hypocritical? 50 said music is his first love because without music even Jay wouldn’t be the businessman he is today. 50 got SMS Headphones to show people he can start a company from scratch and build it to an empire it’s not quite there yet but he said he is making profit and growing at a fast rate… anyone who knows business should know Ownership or equity is what makes money not endorsements, that’s why people to this day are talking about his share that he had with Vitamin water to this day.. don’t think like a dumb ass commentator… ya should comment on why you think it’s not a smart business plan? 50 is one in a lifetime man the way the man works and the way he thinks will be once in a life time… see Jay z used his power of fame to connect with smarter people to develop his business ventures.. Jay aint really a business man he is the business man lol but 50 is not there yet Money wise but he surpassed Jay in terms of knowledge and the information he has .

    • Montezuma1

I thought the Vitamin Water endorsement made him $400m. lmao. Wait. He “owned” Vitamin water. I can’t keep up with all the lies. Pardon self.

    • Jared

You bugging, $1M an episode? If Jay was the type of dude to do T.V. I’m sure he would get the best deal a rapper could get. He looks for margins greater than that. GTFOH…LOL

His money has nothing to do with a proven track record of embellishing. Whatever happened to his movie company. 200M. Cheetah Films? He makes big announcements then nothing. He’s full of shyt.

I don’t recall any of those being in the theater. lol

      • T.A. Miller

Montezuma1. Majority of films do not go to a theater. Film makers have to negotiate with theaters to get their movies shown.

      • Montezuma1

When you spend 10m on the budget and recruit stars like DeNiro distribution is expected.

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

you actling like the movies never came out lol whether or not the public accepts what he releases aint up to 50 …. dude has had so much success on a high level its hard to gauge and compare … guys like jayz and diddy are steadily climbing but took longer to achieve the same kind of sucess 50 has but 50 did it in a much shorter time spand …. and hes still moving but not doing the #s he used to do but still doing more than most out here now ….

  • chocboywonder

Hustlers do what hustlers do. One lane slows up, you move to another.

  • Surviving

50 has at least 10 films on NetFlix right now, all the films for Cheetah Vision go straight to DVD. Films with Deniro, Val Kilmer, Forrest Whittaker, etc… He got 200 mil out the deal so he’s probably spending about 5-12 million per picture and pocketing the rest. Hate if you want but the guy is surviving, albeit better than the average American.

    • DLOUPO

    • Montezuma1

Netflix? Who does straight to Netflix with DeNiro? lol. FAIL. First, HE didn’t get 200. The white boy Randy was given access to 200 million contingent on 50’s involvement. 50 turned out not to be a draw. You don’t budget 10m for films that go straight to netflix. He did a couple really low budget films aside from that to get credits, practice and hype. Those are the bulk of what you see on Netflix. Those got him in the mix but he can’t act and eventually the market spoke. He did a film with Deniro that was so horrible it never got mainstream release. End of 200 access. If you dudes gonna ride the ni99a at least know your shyt. I’m trying to save you poor excuses of men from being dyck-riders your entire life. 50 is done. He has no music career, no acting career and his boxer ain’t shyt without taking PED’s. All he got left is the hype on the internet and the interns who pretend to be fans. Those big checks are done and all the bridges he burned along the way left him with nowhere to turn. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

maybe i had low expectations going in to watch 50s films on netflix but all them joints were surprising really good … his acting imo was superb especially in the one where he had cancer that joint was epic …

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

and if you think there aint no money to be made off netflix go check thier stock price lol there aint netflix clones out there for nothing ……

      • Montezuma1

Not gonna lie. I’ve never watched his straight to DVD movies but a few homies who did said they were alright. The real issue is he’s not quite the draw investors expected not his acting skills. From the start his mainstream popularity wasn’t his own. His association with Em had as much if not more to do with his success than his music. He seized the moment and momentum as he was supposed to but when Em fell back from music the mainstream interest waned. During Em’s hiatus 50’s relevance kept slipping. He and his handlers tried to repackage him as a business juggernaut to keep everyone’s attention but white fans don’t really care about the financial success of their artists the way black ones do. They supported him because he was part of the team of their favorite rapper who wasn’t rapping anymore. Black fans are too caught up in the finances of talent. It’s as if they think the presumed success reflects on them in some way. It really doesn’t. More than anything I just try to wake these fools up because it’s really embarrassing to see them so vested in the financial business of a stranger. At the end of the day 50 is a black man so I’m gonna root for him because no matter how crass and tacky and self-hating he may be his success will create opportunity for someone else. My hope is the next guy in line, doesn’t follow 50’s blueprint because 50 could’ve been so much more if he weren’t such a petty, hateful person.
