Ms. Hill thanked all her fans for their kind words and even updated them on her life in prison:

I have known since very young to look for the purpose and lesson in everything, including the trials.  Although it has taken some adjustment, I cannot deny the favor I have encountered while in here, and general warm reception from a community of people who despite their circumstances, have found unique ways to make the best of them.  Thank you for the letters of concern and well wishes that I receive in the mail every day.  Although I may not be able to write everyone back, please know that they have been received, read, acknowledged, and appreciated. With Love back, MLH

Ms. Hill is currently serving a three month prison sentence stemming from pleading guilty to tax evasion charges regarding unfiled earnings from 2005-2007.

Ms. Hill is due out in October.

can believe this woman is in jail!!!

  • Matt Swan

Girl do your three months in minimum sec and move on….and when you get out of course, go on Wendy Williams talking about how bad it was in jail and how you didn’t deserve what you got, whine, whine, whine, but make sure you pay your taxes next year FOH

    • Tony G.

Fugg are u mad about lol

      • Matt Swan

lol I aint mad. I’m sick of mofo’s getting some light bids and actin like the world has ended, then they come out all hard and ish. Wayne and TI top the list at the moment. But mad, naw, sick of the bs yup

      • Yabiggirl

Wayne and TI dont even compare to Lauryn Hill Fool, u just sound angry! People shouldn’t be jailed for taxes, its all corrupt and full of shit!!! In particularly, its just another reason to throw black people in jail…….Romney paid no taxes for 3 years and yet in still, no mention of jail time!! #GetyoLife

      • Matt Swan

Really? How do they not compare? Both did time, both came out talkin sideways about how hard they had it. Well you can sit there and compare yourself to Romney, and you can sit there and chill on welfare, have a ton of fatherless kids and not get a job….it makes no diff to me. Taxes are what they are, and if you have a good accountant or a damn good tax preparer, you’re going to be ok. If you have neither and don’t pay, well you get whats coming to ya. Either way I’m good. I legally don’t have to pay taxes anymore so F it really.

      • Yabiggirl

Lil Wayne amd T.I were not jailed for not paying axes, that is how they dont compare, simple!!

Your view on taxes as a whole is that of a simple minded individual so I wont even bother to go into details with you about it, plus, you dont pay them anyway so not even sure y u commented on this status, lol. Taxes is a scam incorporated by the US government, I wont go into all that IRS is not a American entity, how taxes are really payments sent to Britain on the low and all that good, not talked about shit!!!

To simplify it for both you and me, I’m a everyday citizen, I work 6 days a week and have for the last 9 years. As a citizen, my tax money is supposed to go to public education, city/state infrastructure and an overhaul contribution to making life in America better for everyone, well guess what, where I live, and all over America, Public education hasn’t received adequate funding in over 12years, America as a whole is crumbling, sink holes all over the country, buildings collapsing everyday, etc…So again, why are people being thrown in jail, specifically black entertainers for not allowing the gov’t to openly steal what they worked hard to get….and again, like I said, Romney was publicly criticized for not paying taxes in over 3 years but not one mention of jail time

      • Matt Swan

I had a long drawn out response to you, but….here it is in cliffnotes:
        1. 16 amendment made what we call taxes of today, and the IRS codes cemented it.
        2. We pay our taxes to the government, and they do with them what they will. Our only option to change this is who we vote for, and even that has limited effect.
        3. I don’t pay taxes out of choice, but because I was injured fighting for my country. I’d gladly pay taxes to go back in.
        4. America is falling apart from her own greed. Most Americans are hard working people, but fail to properly plan using the five and ten year projection model. The federal government sends funds to the states to bolster their own tax revenue but again hiw it’s spent is dependent on the politician and their personal goals. Most don’t fall in line with what we actually want, so you’re right the infrastructure in this country is in shambles.
        5. White people are in debt just as much as the blacks when it comes to taxes, you can check on that. The difference is most white people buy tangible investments that can be liquidated on demand to pay debts, whereas most black celebs do not. Nick Cage owed 13+million to the feds and has almost paid it all off through selling properties he has worldwide, for damn near half the price he paid for them, and making movies that no one even hears about because they go straight to dvd. Do you know of any black celeb that is a major investor or landowner? I’m sure there are a few, but not too many.
        6. MAD PROPS to you working and doing the damn thing to better yourself and not rely on the system to pay your way. That’s more than many do regardless of color. I’d buy you a drink, but I don’t drink.
        7. Romney was criticized for not paying his fair share of taxes over that period of time. He was using a lower tax bracket than he should’ve supposedly he made good after he was called out. But make no mistake about it, his wife owns Heinz foods. Broke isn’t in their vocabulary.

      • Yabiggirl

lol, I thought u decided against the long drawn out response?! smh!!

You have some valid and respectable points, I can appreciate your opinion even if I do not agree. My views are of someone who does not believe in American Government, taxes, and the contradictions that surround them all. Its hard to believe in the laws of the land, including the constitution as minorities are still treated like 2nd class citizens and low-middle income families have their rights infringed upon everyday. What they put on paper is one thing, but when it all trickles down its obvious they dont really give a fukk!! They just want everyone to pay their taxes so they can continue to prosper. My response to you regarding Lauryn Hill being jailed wasn’t so much about the issue of her paying taxes, but more so another jailed citizen for a non-violent crime. We are taking peoples freedoms away for taxes? Really? America is all about money, no right or wrong, land of the free and home of the brave with the worlds highest incarceration rate, go figure. Dont get me wrong, since we all have to pay taxes and really cant do anything about it, then hey, thats what we gotta do, but punish all those who fail to pay, equally and fairly, not just black, not just entertainers, but everyone and it definitely shouldnt involve jail time!! smh

      • Matt Swan

Well at least I didn’t have to buy you that drink…you work to much to get it lol. As long as we can talk about our differences, then it’s all good, and it’s ok to agree to disagree. I’m sure we’ll probably do it again. But it’s when we don’t talk there is a problem.
We allow ourselves to be treated as such by our actions, our words, and our choice in “leaders” in the Community. Only time I see Sharpton is when it can further his personal adjenda and put his mug on TV. We tried to make our own language called “Ebonics” Really? We are too stupid to use proper English? We wear out pants hanging low thinkin we’re cool, but not knowing the true meaning of why they were hung like that in the first place. We are our own worst enemy bar none.
America has the highest incarceration rate because we are one of the only countries in the world that actually keep active status on it. Russia is damn near an entire continent to itself and no one knows how many jails they have or inmates, but they know of every jail in America because we like to tell everyone everything.
There has to be a consequence to any action. If you know you’re supposed to pay taxes and you refuse, you should loose your belongings to include pay in order to settle the debt. If you refuse or try to maneuver your way around it, then you should go to prison so you have ample time to think about it, and still have to pay after you get out. This should be across the board regardless of your tax bracket, last name, or celeb status. But that’s IMO.
Whew now I need a drink….some nice sweet tea is going to do wonders.
