love him or not this guy is really raising the bar above the stat quo, no one has taken rap music to where he has at this point and he ain’t done..ppl want him to retire, but like tiger woods, him being around actually keeps a light on the genre and thus makes money for everyone else in the field

at this point, like his music or not, u just gotta be real with yourself and *peep my name*

I agree. I’ve always stAted that if mainstream rap died the underground would die off to. most underground artist want that mainstream fanbase. so the jay zs, lil waynes and rick Ross’s are needed to keep real hip hop alive. just my opinion.

      • brotha_man

true dat cuz Brother Ali has yet to get the recognition he deserves along wit dessa and P.O.S

Like it or not without Jay Z still being around, who is holding the torch for Hip Hop as high? Lil’ Wayne? Drake? French Montana? Snoop Dogg? He’s the LAST REAL GINUINE article of SUPER STAR HIP HOP! You can argue Nas all you want, but Nas is a “here & there” type of nigga, he ain’t never made no real noise for the world to respect. Nigga has no TMZ, ET, Extra, Oprah, Obama type of buzz. Even if he is a better lyricst, he’s not a better artist.

    • ItGoesDownINtheDM

they both serve thier purpose jayz just has more obligation to the game cause hes a boss as well as an artist … nas is just an artist he just has the obligation to uphold himself and his own legacy

    • ZUBU

Bro, I feel what you saying but Jay left hip hop behind a long time ago, its all about making money. Which is cool for him, but that has nothing to do with the betterment of hip hop.

    • Celz

Jay’s a better lyricist overall in my opinion.. And I agree with what you said. But Jay sold out. It may not be a sell your soul sell out. Cuz Jay is what a “Rich Nicca” or a “Nicca out the hood” should look and act like. He’s like yea I’m cultured but commit a crime? And lose my pension (or whatever)? Are you stupid? Rob you? If wanted more bread I would just stop donating to charity..

Nas however is a more mature version of Jay IMO. He keeps it realer overall.
