Hip-Hop Rumors: Did The Game Get Discriminated Against?

The rapper Game is known to get into some controversy, but this one may be another great human rights issue that faces America going forward. First there was Civil Rights, then Women’s Right and Gay Rights…but now…what about Tattooed People’s Right?

Yeah, The Game wear at a restaurant in Pasadena, CA and apparently he was refused service because of all the tattoos he has on his body. That’s right. Game, known to be a big tipper, was given the boot. The rapper went off on Twitter too. He said: “Never eating (at) Houston’s restaurants as long as I live! Denied service in Pasadena by (the manager)… because: I have tattoos on my arms ?!?… It’s 90 degrees outside so I have a tank top on & the manager on duty says the tattoos on my arms are threatening 2 (to) lunch customers…Racism still exists… Don’t eat at Houston’s Pasadena…”

Now he clearly claims racism, but if he runs with the tattoo side of things, he can probably get more people on his side. Shoot, Black people in 2013 don’t even believe they are racists in the world any more. SMH.

I don’t view this as an example of racism. He could have been a white skinhead and the tattoos could intimidate people and that could affect business by reducing the amount of customers who shop that day.

So no, I don’t think it’s racist in this instance. It’s more they have a dress code and he violated it according to them. If the dress code were not available to customers in advance then it’s unprofessional of the business to discriminate. If it really is a dress code to cover up tattoos or wear a 3 piece suit that is the rule of the establishment and should be followed by the customer or patron.

You should watch the ABC show “What Would You Do”. One episode showed 2 blacks trying to get into a club with jeans and a button up, they said “Sorry no jeans guys.” The black kid said “but those white guys just got in with jeans on?” The bouncer paused and said, “Yea, we’re at capacity now, fire marshal’s rules not ours sorry.” After the black kid pointed out that he changed the reason the bouncer became violent and began pushing them away threatening with the police saying “you’re causing a scene”. They do this on purpose and what you stated is their excuse. I would post the video but Disqus blocks links. It’s on you tube.

      • so you generalize every business with the place you seen on TV that one time??? Fail.

      • keepitthoro

hey man u don’t have to feel like u have to carry the white flag and be defensive bout everything, I kno there’s good white folk out there too, we just speaking on the experiences that really happen to us, maybe sometimes so much so, we may mistakenly perceive other innocent situations as discrimination..u gotta understand when it happens so often u tend to question ppl’s motives..and that goes for anything, not just racism

      • I see both sides. im not carring the white flag, im telling you whats up same as you…

      • keepitthoro

this stuff happens all the time out here too bro..I member when I lived just outside of toronto, when we’d go out down there we’d literally travel with back up gear, shoes whatever, cuz we knew bouncers were guarantee to say some ish to one of us..then we be like alright hit the car and come back with a serious smile..they hate so hard its ridiculous…eventually we get kicked out when they see us talking to too many of their “girls” if u get me..tho that ain’t the reason they give u

I’ve been to Houston’s plenty of times, and this isn’t racism. They don’t allow tank tops or caps in there. Black, white, whatever. It’s no different than Mr.Chow’s, Nobu, Ruth Chris’, etc. Game knows this, ni99a just wanted to bend rules for a moment and it didn’t work.

  • @Real_SirJamie

They make rules in response to what we as Africans are familiar with. (Disclaimer, in no way do I condone the following behavior) For instance, do you think Game was the ONLY PERSON there with tattoos? That’s like clubs that have “dress code policies” but it’s really a NO BLACKS policy. “No jeans, No Plain color T-Shirts, No Tennis Shoes, No Athletic attire (Jerseys, Ball Caps etc) No GOATEES, No DREADLOCKS, No CORNROLLS/Braids” These things aren’t created by my people but we wear them more than others. In my state they’ve outlawed PitBulls and Rottweilers in certain cities. Even outlawed sagging. We are being oppressed by the second. This is another “Oprah Moment” Don’t let that money make you think you are equal. Because they remind us we aren’t everyday.

    • Nemesis_Enforcer

Maybe it’s time for us to clean it up a bit. Nothing that you listed would be a loss if we gave it up. Dreads and Goatees are excessive though. But cats do need to pull their pants up.

      • @Real_SirJamie

Yes I agree with you. Pants sagging and/or baggy clothes in general is funny looking but at the same time, so are skinny jeans, mohawks, glasses with clear lenses (that aren’t prescription just for the “smart look”) and any other thing THEY do without being oppressed for it. I’m from Oakland Ca. You mean to tell me I can’t wear a Jack Tatum (my favorite player) jersey, beige Dickies, and black converse all stars without being perceived as “gang related”? I bet if Adam Levine (Singer from Maroon5 whose arm is sleeved and dresses “grungy” or “garage band style”) or David Beckham (Soccer player whose arm is also sleeved and dresses the same way) walked in there they wouldn’t refuse them service.

      • MikeyRon

        Great point!

      • The game is gang related doe… that common knowledge.

      • I WILL BITE YOU!!

he’s a hip hop artist lol… he is not gang related and probably never was either

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

wether real or fake its the image he portrays … everything else comes with the territory ……………………………..

      • The NBA’s Allen Iverson rule.

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

right fighting for his right to materialize ….. it is what it is tho hes just being defensive ………

    • ImFred ImRico

we’re not equal or they SAY we’re not equal?

      • @Real_SirJamie

Like I said, in your mind you may THINK you are equal, And we are LITERALLY equal as humans, But they make sure we aren’t equal socially and in some cases economically.

      • J.Erick

        agree with this statement

      • ImFred ImRico

I agree. How do you choose to deal with it?

      • @Real_SirJamie

I know my peoples history, and the second someone gets out of line I make them remember, When my people were kings and queens, already versed in science, astrology and literature, YOUR people were in the mountains of Caucus, rubbing sticks together to make fire and scared to exit their caves. I’ve never had to say this but usually I take the “Oprah/Gucci approach”. Say, “you know what? B***H I MIGHT BE!!” and keep it moving, KNOWING that I’m superior.

      • your people werent kings and queens, there is one king and one queen. you all cant be kings and queens!! LOL dumbass, if you are all kings and queens well then there goes the value of being a king and queen.

      • Guest

So you honestly believe by “kings and queens” he meant every one is a queen and a king with a crown? lool… why comment on something you have no knowledge of?

      • he said his people were kings and queens, not me!!! Dumbass

      • Guest

*sigh* again… ‘So you honestly believe by “kings and queens” he meant every one is a queen and a king with a crown?’
are you that stupid or you’re just acting stupid because you’re trolling?

      • how about this, you tell me what YOU think he means??? Calling your entire race kings and queens is kinda arrogant dontcha think??

      • Malik

        Let’s see if I can help here…

It’s an English language construct and in this particular construct, the phrase ‘When my people were kings and queens’ is used as a metaphor.

The metaphor is meant to expound on the knowledge that Blacks on the African continent had a well-developed and fully functional society which was according to their needs and wants (self-sufficient)…way before the advent of western civilization.

The advancements western civilization brought with it to Africa, they equally created the need for in Africa…but I digress.

      • theres no logical conclusion to call yourselves kings and queens lol.. its just some arrogance type shit, lets be honest. im irish thats tantamount to me walking around and saying my people were kings and queens.. and we were pretty bad ass back in the day, one of the few places to stop the romans from taking over.. but i get what you are saying, but most use it to puff out their chest.. and thats lame

      • Malik

It’s a metaphor dude, stop interpreting it literally.

      • its a lame metaphor, heard it too many times mofucas really think they kings and queens.

      • biafra

Do you have a problem with that?

      • nah im white, i really am a king

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

who is ‘they’ remember we are talking about a restaurant here lol

    • J.Erick

He was the only person with a tank top so??

    • Theres a dress code and thats for everyone. You failed homie

    • ItGoesDownINtheDM

no but im sure he was the only one with tatoos and a wife beater on lol thats the difference lol

  • therealest1

Hard call on this regarding racism or discrimination. Years ago, this brother who used to cross paths with me at spots I deal with, he usually wore a tank top, didn’t have arm tattoos as I recall, but a big text one on his upper back, he was swole, anyhow, he told me he went to a Houston’s with one of his usual tank tops on, and they told him he wouldn’t be served unless he came back in with a jacket or sleeved shirt. He conformed with their request and came back with a jacket he had in his car as he told me.

If that establishment can refuse service to a regular, average brother with much less tats than Game wearing a tank top, they could do it to a known rapper as they just did.

    • Why come back?

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

        cause the food is good

      • “The abuse you tolerate is the abuse you will receive!” Fredrick Douglas

I remember back in the days, when the guys Fat Joe pretends to be down with were slinging dope on 140th & Brook and they had various jobs, manager, runner, pitcher & a guy with a stick ball bat whose job was to beat the fiends if they got out of line.
        *Literally a single file line.

Fugg the food, or whatever, if I’m not treated respectfully, I will spend some where that I am instead.

I would have went to KFC instead.

      • brotha_man

this happened to me going in a club near campus back when i was in college. I was wearing jeans and a red polo. we get to the entrance of the club, the dude checking ID’s said he needed three forms of ID to get in. so lucky me I had my D.L, School I.D, and my military I.D. he looked pissed that i actually had three forms. he looks at me and says “your pants are too baggy…. access denied.”

      • It happens all the time, it’s how you react to it that differs.

Did you go back with 3pcs of ID & wearing pants that make your @$$ look like an apricot? Or did you open a club next door & scoop up all that Black business they were turning away?

@ the end of the day we talking cali here … the wrong tatoo can start a fight or worse get someon killed ouchea so i aint knocking someone who is thinking about the LONG TERM of thier business vs the moment of having rapper @ your establishment who isnt respecting your rules that could potentially hurt your business if someone gets offended by his display of tats…. as far as i know alot of store accross the US have shirt policys even small as bodegas have signs NO SHIRT NO SERVICE ….. ijs ….. this aint racism this is game getting his diva on ……………….

    • D_Ably

and game does love gettin his diva on

  • brotha_man

well heel you dont give people much to work with….(1) you are in a gang (2) rap about murder (3) fought a crip and captured it on video (4) cali has a rep of shooting m’fers for wear the wrong colors/tatts.

  • Wavpin

    Game go read a book!

  • $11625525

I know, for a fact, even in England, people used to get refused office jobs if they had visible tattoos.

There are stores which wouldn’t let you in, in short pants or collarless shirts, so an eating establishment doesn’t surprise me, no matter where it is.

They’re obviously trying to deter certain clientèle, add to that the fact that some gangs have tattoo markings; would you want your business getting shot up because a patron is spotted by a member of a rival gang due to his tattoos?

Best thing is, make everyone with tattoos cover up in all of your establishments, then no one can cry foul.

Game needs to reflect on this and stop being a Diva, look what Oprah done started!

  • BulldogCG

wait, black people in 2013 don’t believe in racism?????? and just because the powers that be have found sneaky ways to discriminate, does not mean that the discrimination isn’t rooted in race. Im not saying that is what happened here, i am just saying, silly comment. Since when does this dude speak for all black people?

  • ant662

a course illseed again fails to tells the full story that the restaurant he was at had a dress code were u have to wear full sleeved shirts. game was wearing a tank top. being discriminated for tattoos and racism are two different things. not sure what to believe because if they had a dress code of full length sleeves and he has on a tank top then theres good reason for him to be turned away on other hand would they of let justin bieber in cuz he always has on tanks

  • don king

he chose 2 get tatted, so live with the consequence! n callin it racism is just super dumb.

  • DollasTX

all them damn bikers, skaters, and essays out WEST with sleeves – he might have one with this one

  • MOE925

Game Trippin. They dont let you wear tank tops with or without tats at Houstons. I was almost turned away from a Houstons in Miami because I had on a tank top, or a tshirt, I dont really remember. But I do remember them having dress shirts in the back for customers who were not properly dressed so they could still catch a meal… Nigga dress properly in public, or go somewhere that doesnt care about the way their customers dress. Not really offended by tats but I wouldn’t want to see certain shit while I eat either. Dress codes are for a reason. People think because they have fame or money that they dont have to follow the rules….
