Rick Ross Sues Over LMFAO's Hit "Party Rock Anthem"

(AllHipHop News) Rick Ross has a long memory and he has not forgotten the hit song “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO.

The rapper has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against dance rock group for swiping pieces of his hit record “Hustlin'”.

The 37 year old rapper is not pleased with the fact that the 2010 song has lyrics “Everyday I’m shuffln’,” which are very close to his raps, “Everyday I’m hustlin’.”

“The use of ‘Hustlin’ in ‘Party Rock Anthem’ is readily apparent, despite the slight change from ‘Everyday I’m hustlin” to ‘Everyday I’m shufflin” and constitutes, inter alia, the creation of an unauthorized derivative work,” the lawsuit claims in documents obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.

The lawsuit also says, “The phrase is so important to the success of ‘Party Rock Anthm,’ that LMFAO launched a highly successful clothing line, Party Rock Clothing, that features the phrase on T-shirts and other clothing items.”

The rapper seeks an injunction and maximum statutory damages from LMFAO

LMFAO (pun intended), this is hilarious, coming from a man who stole the name and likeliness of a real man for his own success; and claims he did no such thing, and won the case in court. This is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

  • Sean Power

Ross most need the money thugs sue for words lol

  • Jayson C Williams

Officer Ricky went and told.. lol I ain’t mad get ya bread

  • Boomie Rogers

man u fat bastard… idk what to say i jus dont like rick ross aka William Roberts. 37 and using another mans name as your own but suing for almost the same thing.

    • U.P.T.nw4eva

50 Cent took another man’s name and his family wasn’t pleased either. The real 50 Cent robbed people, 50 made a song how to rob. It’s a name get over it. As far as this lawsuit he has a case. Plenty of artist get sued for using elements of songs without permission. Look at Robin Thicke he is going to lose a lot of money. Hate him because he lied but this article is about copyright infringement. They will probably settle out if court.

      • Jared

        Ironic but smart move.

      • FRUKOH

the real 50 cent himself didnt have a problem with 50 cent taking his name, so the 2 cases are not the same. plus 50 did his thing in the street whereas rick ross didnt.

      • Boomie Rogers

        Thank u

      • Lebron’s_Hairline

He didnt have a problem with it cause he was dead when 50 came out.

      • FRUKOH

point still remains, the 2 cases arent the same (i.e 50 and officer bwoy)

      • Boomie Rogers

Nigga shut up. Yea it’s a name. That ain’t the point. It’s the principle of it. And this article or my comment has nothin to do with those other niggaz. Selfie takin a** nigga.

      • Boomie Rogers

And honestly it’s just my opinion of Rick Ross. I’ve seen a few interviews with the nigga and he jus seems so genuinely full of sh*t. Everything about him is a facade. And yea yea rappers don’t live these certain lives they portray, I mean as a person.

      • Celz

What the fucc does 50 have to do with it? 50 dissed Ja Rule for singin and then proceeded to sing all over his top songs.. He’s done some shyt I don’t agree with and Ross is faker than Brutus the Barber Beefcake. Two wrongs don’t make a right it makes two wrong niccas..

      • Boomie Rogers

        Thank u!

      • Erk073

No fifty got with the fam of real 50 paid for tombstone and I’m sure he look out for the real 50 family.

  • brotha_man

the judge is gonna laugh his a$$ outta court

    • hoeyuno

Haha yea this will be interesting. he’s gonna have to watch them white boys with long hair in speedos to really soak in the evidence.

  • Dadon850

First of all, not only is Rick Ross a fraud, he is legally a fraud. The judge even said so. Secondly, this lawsuit is frivolous. You cannot copyright lines in your music. If that was the case, rappers would get sued all the time for biting lyrics from legends. Rick Ross needs to sit his fat azz down.

    • Jared

Nah bruh you can go into litigation for that. It happens all the time.

      • Dadon850

And you’ll get laughed out of court and get stuck with the other party’s court cost.

      • Jared

Do the research on this topic. Happens all the time. This just went on with Marvin Gaye and the white singer (forgot the name at the moment). Not saying they always win but if it always happens there is incentive for litigation.

      • Dadon850

We’re not talking about the song itself or the beats, we’re talking a specific lyric. If you make a song and say, “I’m superman and I can fly” and if I come behind you and make a song saying “I’m Joe Schmo and I can fly”, you won’t win if you sue me. You can try, but you won’t win. If I use your music, you will win. Lyrics, hell no.

      • Jared

Bruh I’m going to do the research real quick while at work and respond. My understanding is if you trademark that “I’m superman and I can fly” someone else would need to get permission or risk litigation.

      • Dadon850

Read the Rappin 4 Tay story on this site about Drake biting his lyric. Let him sue Drake and see how that works out for him. Hell, Master P said in a song, “From the cradle to the grave, dear mama, keep ya head up”. That’s three Tupac songs in just one line. You think Tupac estate would waste money suing over that?? Stealing music is one battle, biting lyrics is another.

      • Jared

        Robin Thicke

    • LexxBrown

Dam his name aint even Rick Ross. LOL he has to be kidding. And he wasn’t the one hustling.

  • hoeyuno

Remember the dude who use to do the officer Ricky parodys..them joints were hilarious:

  • MR..ASS..TO..MOUTH..

well aint this a blip this nigga steals a man whole life like it’s the thing to do wants to sue over a few words. that’s like a thief calling the cops cuz he got robbed.

  • Perico777

This nigga here the biggest fraud i seen thus far. This nigga took another niggas whole image and now this nigga sues over that shit???

    • Erk073

      Ain’t it man

  • Jared

That’s the most ironic shit I heard all year, LOL. He’s a paper gangster for show though. He let they shit bubble. Smart move.

  • iamwhoiam

    THA FUK?!?!

  • Reblogged this on Money Hu$tle.

  • Havoc Wreaka III

Annndd that’s end of his cRap career

This coke sniffing frauds time is coming, he think he scarface but he ‘aint see the end of the movie!’

  • Inmadopicouroz✓QUEENSᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

it took him this long to start this?

    • Jovaughn

Well this is a smart move on his part. You let the song blow up and become a big success, then you sue for a substantial amount of money. No different from what other genres did to hip-hop artist.

      • David Gonz

        yea. if youre white.

      • Inmadopicouroz✓QUEENSᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

but it did all that 2-3 years ago. it has since faded. I could understand a year 1/2 ago but now???!?!?!

  • Crenshaw on my shirt

  • Truth Powell

This is a square move on Ross’s part.

  • Black Jay

Damn Ross….. Don’t you know how this makes you look? You stole a name. Now you’re complaining that someone stole a phrase. Are you serious?! To be fair though, Ross will lose this one. Why? Just ask Weird AL about it….
