Common To Drop New Album “Nobody’s Smiling” In 2014

(AllHipHop News) Chicago rhymer Common is set to return to music with his 10th album. Com spoke with Revolt TV to announce that the No ID produced Nobody’s Smiling LP will be hitting stores in 2014. This will be the rapper/actor’s first studio project since 2011’s The Dreamer/The Believer.

“I gotta say 2014 is going to be one of my greatest times in music. I feel excited about the project that I’m working on,” says Common. “Originally I was making an EP, but we’ve just been making a lot of songs.”

The veteran emcee explains that the concept for his latest work is based on trying to end the ongoing violence consuming his hometown and inner cities across the world.

“‘Nobody’s Smiling’ was really a thought that came about because of all the violence that was going on in Chicago,” adds Com. “We were talking about the conditions of what’s happening when I said ‘Nobody’s Smiling,’ but it’s really a call to action.”

Common also gives props to the new crop of rising rappers from Chitown.

“The younger artists, they’re really bringing what Chicago is about, and they have brought something new to Hip Hop,” says Common.

“I want my own company cause Com is on a mission not to work for a commission,
It’s a common market and it’s so much competition but to me, competition is none”

If you never heard Resurrection, you are so lucky because you’ll get to experience one of the finest hip hop albums ever… practically flawless album (I choose over illmatic if you wanna know)

    • TheAfroRican

My favorite track on the album. The wordplay is serious.

      • SBRon

        Beat is cool, too…

    • Terrance

BOTH of those were in HEAVY rotation. #CLASSICS

I agree with you that Resurrection made me as a artist and beatmaker even back then made me come back to music as when I was lost in the music, but to say that resurrection was better than nas illmatic is a stretch…….he started his album with the “wild style” sample….simply a masterpiece in music period….

His preference…you can’t knock a man’s preferences; at the end of the day it’s all subjective.

      • brotha_man

thats true. cant say someone is wrong for what music/album they like more. IMO illmatic and tupac me against the world are the best albums of all time.

      • bisolabliss

‘Me Against the World’ is something serious. ‘Pac’s best work hands down and one of Hip-Hop’s seminal releases no doubt.

        My top 3:
        Illmatic
        Me Against the World
        Only Built 4 Cuban Linx

Nas’ opus aside, ‘The Purple Tape’ was another release that highlighted a top level sampling artistry, slangs/colloquialisms and broke new grounds at the time.

I’m actually writing a book on the impact of Raekwon’s masterpiece on Hip-Hop’s landscape and we are in the middle of negotiations with Amazon to carry it on Kindle. It’s just my little scholarly contribution to the game; the publicity would be on here and other Hip-Hop sites as the release date nears.

‘Born to Use Mics: Reading Nas’s Illmatic’ by Michael Eric Dyson & Sohail Daulatzai has already given ‘Illmatic’ its just due and I believe there’s nothing else left to be written about ‘Pac.

ill check for ur book when it drops sounds interesting…hit us up let us know when its ready!

Nas – Lost tapes IMO is better than reasonable doubt….but im not the biggest Jay z fan either

    • brotha_man

      • Celz

Lmao you’re an idiot.. Like niccas who was in the struggle more than you can ever image didn’t wear suits..

      • Celz

Lmao the nicca who says wearin a suit is sellin out can’t understand my casual/ slang/ ebonics/ don’t really give a fucc grammar..

Luckily I’m educated so I’ll rephrase it… If you think wearing a suit is selling out you’re ignorant and misguided, especially since most civil rights leaders from the era wore suits. Even the Black Panther’s dress was closer to a suit than what you see in today’s Hip-Hop culture. Black gangsters, kingpins, businessmen, civil rights activists, leaders, educators, business owners, and etc etc etc who were more connected to the streets than you are wore suits. Can you understand that?

      • 84stickupkid

      • Celz

Then say that.. Don’t say wearin a suit is sellin out

      • 84stickupkid

        I just did…

      • W.E.B. Du Bois

you want a middle aged guy wit a ball cap turned sideways etc like fox? – the message’s important – Grow Up! (or don’t)

Ha! Common! Prepare for some heavy dosage of lyricism i.e. a$$-kicking word play and insightful commentaries. Always a pleasure whenever this bruda grabs a mic.
