Wale Meets Nigerian Family For First Time In New Documentary (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Home was where the hatred was for the late Gil Scott Heron and where Wale . P. Diddy’s 24-hour music channel will debut its first ever original documentary, “Wale: I Am From” which follows the Maybach Music Group rapper on his trip to Africa to reconnect with his Nigerian roots.

For one week, REVOLT followed Wale as he met his Nigerian grandparents for the first time and how his busy music career created difficulties.

Back in November, Wale explained why he never visited his home country until 2013 during an interview with Nigerian radio station Beat FM Lagos:

I grew up poor. We lived in DC, in the projects. Getting a ticket to Nigeria on $20, 000 income yearly, to my family that wasn’t really… you know…like I was a 15 year old with a decent job, I’m not going to save up to go to Nigeria. That wasn’t what I was thinking when I was that age. And then I was in college and the money tight right then. And then I get this record deal when I dropped out of school, you’re running around so much you don’t even have time to see your own parents

The hour long original documentary premieries on January 20th at 10 p.m. EST on REVOLT channel. Check out the trailer for RevoltTV’s “Wale: I Am From” below:

      • disqus_wP9qaQP4Hv

No one likes Nigerians enh? 3 out of every black people are Nigerians, The giant of Africa, Cultured, Mannered, 65% of the population is educated and to top it all one of the fastest growing economy right now. Watch it surpass all the naysayers. Not to forget the 1% thats up to no good, but then if you think about it right greed is the real reason why idiots become victims of scams. You’ve never met me but promise you riches and you believe it??? Never that not where i’m from

      • FRUKOH

google it, they the most hated for good reason, there may be some good ppl but fruk tryna find a needle in a haystack. u nigerian anyway so your opinion dnt mean nada

      • Celz

Nicca you don’t even believe yourself.. How bout instead “net bangin” let’s get a lil philosophical. What kind of shortcomings, character flaws, and/ or self hate do you have bottled up inside that would allow you to angrily stereotype people you never met? Or maybe you’re not racist you’re just seekin attention online cuz you don’t get it in real life? You prolly the nicca that would call out racist white people and turn around and be MORE racist to niccas… Stop killin yaself and don’t even reply

      • disqus_wP9qaQP4Hv

Yeah! They hated Jesus too 🙂 People label what they don’t understand. Anything bad Nigerians did or are doing comes from what they’ve learnt from the past oppressors.
Pls Enlighten me by stating reasons for hate maybe i can help shed light on it.

      • 1/3rd of all African Americans are Nigerian (or from Yoruba tribes). Just because you don’t know where you’re from doesn’t entitle you to ignorance.

      • FRUKOH

‘it aint where you from its where you at’ and where nigerians are today, only nigerians really mess with em, with a few exceptions. and i aint one of the 1/3 even though im from africa, so im entitled to my ‘informed decision’
