The Boondocks’ New Season Will Be First One Without Aaron McGruder

(AllHipHop News) When The Boondocks returns for its fourth season, the animation will look the same, the humor will seem similar, however one crucial component will be significantly different.  Adult Swim announced today (March 21st), that the creator of The Boondocks, Aaron McGruder will not be apart of the new season.

Citing scheduling conflicts, Adult Swim states that McGruder will not participate in The Boondocks’ upcoming fourth season;

this season was produced without the involvement of Aaron McGruder, when a mutually agreeable production schedule could not be determined.

McGruder has either written or co-written every one of the 45 episodes of The Boondocks’ since its series debut on November 6th, 2005.

The Boondocks’ first season in over three years will premiere on Adult Swim on April 21st.

i want him to make a show about tubesteak

    • DReskonie

lmao yo that would be hilarious

  • This Doesnt make sense…the CREATOR of a show that hasnt had a new episode in 3 years is not involved in his own creation due to a scheduling conflict??? 2 things 1: its been 3 years so im sure they could’ve waited till he was free and 2. (More Importanly) what the hell does Aaron McGruder got going on that hes to busy to Write a show??? Not direct, not act in it, but simply get with a team and write some episodes…outside of Boondocks what else has he done because thats all i know him from…that story is b.s. First they say a airplane magically disappears with 300 ppl on it and now this bullshit…they’ll say anything now days and want you to run with it lol

    • Myleage

exactly. and they BEEN announced that Boondocks is coming back months ago. it seems like they didnt even start creating episodes if they are just now announcing it weeks before its premiere. what type of schedule conflict can stop him from participating in even one episode? they had months to do this

      • For real not even one??? I hate when ppl lie about the truth when it can so easily be shown that its not the truth.

      • blackmoses

It takes nine months to turn out an episode of this program. Trust that at least, if not over, half of these episodes are in the can and done, and the others have long been written and are in production.

      • Inmadopuroz

Hey moses spread my ass cheeks and cum inside

    • Keith N.

You said “not direct, not act, but simply get with a team and write some episodes”. Check the credits to those 45 Boondocks episodes. There is no team for the most part..it’s just him. Also to say “SIMPLY” write episodes is making it seem as if the best thing about The Boondocks isn’t its writing which as complex as it is can not SIMPLY be done.

Oh and he’s making a show for Adult Swim called “Black Jesus” so I’m sure this is a case of Adult Swim wanting to double up their investment for 2014

      • blackmoses

There is absolutely a team – a team across two continents – working on “The Boondocks”. Their writers’ room is fairly small (at least as far as the writers who get screen credit), but an animated show like this one will always require a huge, huge crew to pull it off.

      • there is a team of writers on every show, he’s not the only writer i assure you.

      • Inmadopuroz

      • bisolabliss

I got all the DVDs of The Boondocks and in it there’re some clips of the making of the serial. There’s about 3-4 creative writers if I’m not mistaken.

    • Lord Saltsworth McGinty III

He is working on a new series for Adult Swim called “Black Jesus”. I was hoping that this was a marketing ploy.

      • didn’t know he was doing the other show but a 3 year hiatus without no work done on the series makes no sense at all

    • JudoBeatz

hes working on a new show called black jesus from what ive heard

      • yeah i’ve been told that but if thats the case discontinue the old show, don’t tell the ppl that he’s pretty much too busy to be a part of his own creation.

  • I’m sick

    They Chappellin’ this nigga.

  • drac215

Its not about money its about “so called power”, aaron has reached that point!!! His show is a “cultural” phenom. When the “hood” point of view reaches the masses and sparks conversation(biggie, pac, black panthers, king,”Christ”) the u.s.a. gov. gets nervous!!! Aaron has now reach the chappelle status(white boys love you!!!) and the elder racist hate it. The power is with “Christ the King” via God, bless us all, peace.

    • The_Good_Life

I feel you to a point but the govt’ had nothing to do with this. The media loves when blacks show they azz in public so they can have a good laugh. Thats why they love it . The hood dig it cause we recognize the characters. Check it who’s more famous right now, chuck d or flava flave? Who’s more disposable. Chuck d or flava flave?

      • drac215

See what some of you dont understand is the gov runs the media(cable tv, radio, internet). So if your boss says, “I have the satellites, electricity, material that you need to operate, if you dont cooperate, lights out!!!” What you gonna do? Believe me its bigger than a cartoon, aarons political views woke a lot of people up. God bless you .

        REAL TALK…

  • The_Good_Life

If your putting out coonery and making your people look bad, why would the gatekeepers respect you. You wanted more doe so they yapped your own show from you cause its cheaper to buy another coon.

At least when Dave Chappell woke up, he left and took his show with him cause he owned the rights to all his coonery.

    • Dave Chappelle show wasn’t coonery. Neither is Boondocks.

      • The_Good_Life

Making black people look stupid in media for money isn’t Coonery?

      • Lord Saltsworth McGinty III

Someone does not understand what satire is.

      • The_Good_Life

There is no improvement in the people this particular type of humor is related to. If u understand the purpose of satire, this statement will not go over your head.

    • Thought Dog

The word coon is starting to be really misunderstood. The people you called coons are nowhere close to that. Turn on a Waka Flocka, Rick Ross, French Montana, Tyga etc…video to see a perfect example of a coon.

      • The_Good_Life

Coonery: Acting in such a manner as to perpetuate black stereotypes in society.

Example. Tyler Perry acting like the stereotypical black grandmother or Boondocks funny characterization of the hood pastors or Dave Chappelle crack is wack. All black stereotypes. Cooning originated as a style of comedy. Todays Music is definitely a good example.

      • trixnkix637

One’s a reenactment or portrayal while the other is a satire. know the diff my friend.

      • Thought Dog

What @trixnkix637:disqus said. There’s a major difference between comedy and blatantly putting on a realistic performance of negative stereotypes.

      • The_Good_Life

It ain’t hard to tell. What is comedy for some, is confirmation for others. And since they already expect you to act in a certain manner, they have no problems strong arming your art from u. But u don’t hear me though.

      • Thought Dog

So whats your solution? Ban all black comedians from being seen? 30 seconds of the average popular rap song/video does more damage to the perception of black people than a million episodes of chapelles show or boondocks could ever do.

      • The_Good_Life

The problem solves itself. Cooning has always had a short life because that type of art is disposable. This was my original point. That why waka has faded out while nas is still rocking.

      • $11625525

I think someone like Chappelle laughed in the face of the Black stereotype and held a virtual mirror up in the face of those perpetrating those stereotypes and keeping them alive. Anyone who watched him and continued to do so was beyond saving, but I am sure he shocked a few people into adjusting the way the think, or act, along the way when they realised how ridiculous they must appear to others.

He also provided the medicine of laughter for those suffering racial injustices who may not be in a place where they are able to face it head on themselves. It not a fix or a solution, by any stretch, but it surely must have been like someone giving them a voice and saying what they wanted to so the wider world might take note.

Katt Williams, on the other hand, I feel missed the bus with his use of the comedy platform.

      • Celz

Yea the difference is Boondocks presents these stereotypes in such ridiculous fashion that their ridiculous nature is exceedingly apparent. The stereotypes contrast with the normal characters so it’s easy to see they aren’t grounded in reality. And Boondocks often (if not always) has a positive message that outweighs the stereotypes.

    • bisolabliss

Boondocks is Satirical not Coonery nor Buffoonery

    • Weedras

you don’t know what you’re talking about or you can’t comprehend what’s satire…

  • i ain’t trying to hear that bulls**t like spike lee…i hope this isn’t an attempt to back out of some BS thats about to drop in a few weeks. Tell us he’s not a part of the show, the season ends up sucking, with the reason being Aaron wasn’t behind it.

  • disqus_R0wVfYtgDK

Whoaaaa holup this changes everything! This show and everything the boondocks stands for isn’t anything without Aaron. His opinion is what makes the central character Huey and the entire show for that matter. This is a huge blow to me! Not to sound like a fan boy but damn yo!

  • Brooklyn Stoop

Makes sense, he prolly was to busy working on his OTHER adult swim cartoon called Black Jesus

    • Weedras

well said! someone in the know, finally.. lol! some of these clowns on here blaming ‘the whiteman’ lol! smh…

  • Charismatic eNegro Jef Vinson

Typical for black shows, by year 4 the creator can’t handle the work load and/or the network wants to change things. Look at the Chappelle Show.

  • Jonathan Bacher

    Lame ! always about $$$

  • plsDontreply

Now when I watch the show I will feel every little joke is just racist as fuk… Laughing with us or at us? I dont know but Im dissappointed to hear this.

    • Brian Taylor

I was so surprised to hear about the fact Mr McGruder wasn’t directly involved with his “baby” for the fourth and last season, that this hadn’t even dawned on me yet (Coming from the opposite perspective, obviously). History has shown that he is very protective of all things Boondocks and Boondocks related. That would lead me to think the writer(s) were hand picked by him or he signed off on their inclusion in the Boondocks project. I really want to hear Mr McGruder’s account of why this went down the way it did and just how O.K he was with it.

  • ccwaterbound32

they gotta water down the content and overall message of the show…typical.

  • John Q. Public

Pops Witherspoon said the whole thing was finished back in December and it was originally sposed to air in January before it got postponed… So he woulda already been part of season 4 right?

  • WhiteBlack

watch how terrible this shit will be now..

  • J.C.

    very sus

  • chosenxeno

Get ready for the focus to be on Riley’s ignorant ass. This is the same thing that happened to Good Times. It became about JJ’s coonish antics instead of the Black Family.

    • Terrance Goodman

Real shit I noticed that in both shows. Jeffersons also.

      • no suprise. U so right chosenxeno.
