Troy Ave

Hip-Hop Rumors: Guess What Big Move Troy Ave Did?

Troy Ave has been kicking around NYC as the next big thing for a minute now. But, I’m hearing he may actually turn out to be that very, very soon. The NY rap dude (that they say is the new 50 Cent) is has signed to a major, I’m hearing. And, no…he’s not like Joey Bada$$ and some of these other dudes in the city that are staying steadfastly indie. He’s gotten the big bucks to make big things happen. He’s also got parts of 50 Cent’s old team on his new team, I’m hearing. This bodes well for the young gun. Hoping he can make a proper entrance into the game, because New York needs it.

sounds like mase an loon in the voice

Troy’s music is okay. He’s definitely following 50’s blueprint but he won’t get the same results because these are different times. As far as NY needing it rap is not the NBA and we don’t have different teams. Rap needs as many quality artists as possible from everywhere. Troy lacks mass appeal. He has that late night NYC music to drive to feel. Everyone isn’t gonna connect to that. He’ll do well in the tri-state and Philly. That’s it. I wish writers would stop encouraging segregation in rap. It hurts the entire genre. What good is it if your region is popping but rap is dead? Because that’s what we are dealing with. I’m sick of hearing so and so is bringing back the West or East Coast. Let all that ignorant promotion go. It never existed before Deathrow and Pac introduced it on a successful level. The tribalism in rap has to be the most ignorant self-destructive and limiting quality attributed to “art.”

    • best_believe

      Well said

    • I wouldn’t expect Troy to be a crazy blockbuster artist, but he navigates that line between commercial and real Mcing pretty well.He ‘s a NY street MC like a 50,jada,Cam .He has potential to make some hits though. He has good hook writing skills and a strong street following

    • ItGoesDownINtheDM

and i dont know if hes built for an major .. unless you selling like drake you better stay indy … or better yet if you can sell like drake STAY INDY !!!!!!!! drake could be something like Macklemoore right now

    • trilltalk1

death row and pac, that is bullshit. the east use to shit on everyone else. they would come down here and sell out there shows. but as time went on niggas noticed how they treated our artist when they would come up there and thats what started the separation. not deathrow and pac STOP THE LIES.

      • Montezuma1

You are delirious. You weren’t there and I can tell. Don’t let your inferiority complex skew your facts. Ice T had the support of Zulu nation from the beginning. His DJ Afrika Islam was from the Bx. When Cube left NWA it was the Bomb Squad who salvaged his career. That’s why he was like a West Coast Chuck D. I can keep going but you are a typical ignorant misinformed fool and I’d rather leave you in darkness wondering why nothing you do works.

      • Django 2Chainz

I Wasnt there either but I do know that The East coast had a History of Not supporting the South in the Past….& Im speaking from the fact that They Booed Outkast when they first came, Showed UGK no love, & I heard Jermaine Dupri say They wouldnt play his records…But I dont hold nothing against them i love some East Coast shit

      • Montezuma1

They loved Ice Cube at the Apollo. Jheri Curl and all. UGK ain’t all that hot for real. My favorite Texas group is the Geto Boys. TI’s manager is from NY. Nelly got put on by a NY dude. There’s so many NY cats behind the scenes helping Southern artists. What you all have to realize is NY had been rapping longer and it took some time for other sounds to get accepted because they were different. That went for NY artists who tried to be different as well. The attempt to turn everything into regional bias is trite. Outkast were influenced by the Nuwaubian teachings of Dr. York who migrated to GA back in the early 90’s from NY. All that ideology Dre and Goodie Mob were spitting was new to y’all and old to us. To this day the marching orders come from the corporate offices in NY by the same white execs who didn’t realize the potential of Southern acts until later.

      • Django 2Chainz

Listen Im not arguing That the Regional war is Wrong. But You not liking UGK might be a personal opinion…Of course thats what we grew up On where Im from…But thats the same attitude pple have towards music from diff regions. & Im not talking bout Neo Soul Outkast…Im talking Southern Playlistic Outkast that got booed…But Biggie was a fan of them. We all know NY’s the Mecca & to get any real success You need NY Support. But the south kinda did everything independent because of that. personally I like diff kinds of music…But Im bias towards Ol Southern hip hop but All 4 regions have artist that sucked

      • EniggaMA

Fam first off most of yall music sucked. We respect good music. Second you have know Idea what u talking about cause if u did the south been getting radio play up here since bling, bling days. Yall came up when we started doing records wit yall. Also when in was in Florida Kast got ran the fiduck in Outta club Hennessey. So it wasn’t just us

      • Montezuma1

You must be 20yrs old or extremely misinformed. Blissfully ignorant. Carry on.

      • trilltalk1

nah homie not 20, but i see you a lil tight about what i said. the truth upsets niggas more then a lie. be cool like how you be cool. but i know for a fact east artist use to shit on the west and the south. you know it too but won’t admit it cause more then likely you from the east coast.

      • Montezuma1

You see a lot in 3 short sentences devoid of any emotion. lol. Man take your meds.

      • trilltalk1

yea i did take my meds SFV OG. for you none smokers thats San Fernando Valley OG Kush. but the fact remains you know i am right thats why you shooting slugs at me. but me understanding the truth makes niggas feel a certain way. i don’t have to shoot slugs speaking whats trill is slug enough.

    • Arrie Mental Woodard

yes it did exist before deathrow and Pac… they just did it on a different scale. NWA was waving the West Coast flag heavy, Native Tongues was repiing the East Coast heavy… etc the difference is the war wasnt popping off and everything was strictly music. Deathrow and Pac escalated everything 20 fold. but the dividing lines have always been present!

      • Montezuma1

Being proud of where you’re from and promoting animosity are not the same. Native tongue never promoted beef to sell records.

      • Arrie Mental Woodard

true that, and neither did NWA as a whole either. my point was merely they were repping their region, not the violence towards rival crews part.

      • Montezuma1

My point was Pac and Deathrow promoted hatred that led to killings all in the name of selling records. Shameful. And these are our heroes.

      • Arrie Mental Woodard

i feel you fam and your point is well taken!

  • EniggaMA

we don’t need shit we good

  • SleepyTheGreat

I tried to listen to his mixtape, minus a few cuts. To me he sounds just like another NY rapper

    • ItGoesDownINtheDM

i wouldnt say that …. he def doesnt sound like any of the current ny dudes like fred the godson, papoose, maino, flatbush zombies, joey badass, french montana, asap mobb etc…… he dont sound like none of them .. and actually looking @ the list none of the ny dudes sound like each other … looks like they are building a nice colorfull line up on the low ……

      • SleepyTheGreat

The people you name have their own sound, what I meant was he sounds like a generic NY rapper you’ll hear passing out his cd a the park. Nothing really original about the guy. He sounds like a young 50 but not as clever or witty.

      • rocnation30

THESE NEW RAPPERS HAVE NO STORY….NOTHING THAT MAKES THEM SPECIAL SORT A SPEAK THATS WHY THEY COME AND GO…CANT FIND THAT NASIR JONES FROM QUEENS BRIDGE , OR SHAWN CARTER FROM MARCY, BIG FROM BROOKLYN, NO STORY THEY JUST PUT WORDS TOGETHER THAT RHYMES AND IT DOESNT PAINT THAT PICTURE….

THATS A BIG PART OF BEING A RAPPER GOTTA HAVE A STORY TO TELL AND IF YOU DO HAVE A STORY DONT TELL IT TO FAST LET IT PLAY OUT OVER MULTIPLE ALBUMS, OR YOULL END UP LIKE EMINEM TELLIN US ALL ABOUT HIS PSYCHO MOM IN ONE OR 2 ALBUMS AND NOTHIN ELSE TO GIVE US….OR LIKE WAYNE STARTING OUT SO YOUNG WITH A STORY AND GIVIN US EVERYTHING ON HIS MIXTAPES AND DIES OUT…

      • SleepyTheGreat

You dropping jewels on my head fam!!! I co-sign 100% Especially Eminem. The bars are there but he’s been talking about the same thing for a decade now. After all those tapes and albums Wayne can barely make a decent punchline now days. The Story is everything and must be released in chapters (albums)

      • Immortal

Bruh you just described the BIG difference between a rapper and a MC. That’s going to go over a lot of cats heads.

      • Django 2Chainz

Thats Crazy I be telling people this all The time about rappers not having stories no more. That use to be the driving point of their music was the fact they had a story to tell, and that kept you interested in listening to them. Its still a few rappers with stories…I like Kdot, Ab Soul, & Schoolboy Story, I think Freddie Gibbs & yelawolf might have an interesting story. I use to like Asaps Story but it got wore out quick

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

actually they do but they think you need to tell street tales in order to gain respect and money in hip hop … they better open they eyes and see how sillly drake is making himself look altho his bank account says WINNING !! lol

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

sometimes i think that comes from dudes trying to win …. after the fact alot of them will look back like …. man i could of managed that wayyyyyy bettter …… especially if they exit the game in worse shape then when they entered …

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

WE NEED THAT GENERIC NY MC !!!! but honestly i dont think Troy AVE IS IT !!!!!!!!!!!! personally …. sounding like fif doesnt make him NY … cause @ the end of the day fif has more of a southern draw to his music than he does ny … fifs production = 50% ny and 50% west coast …. The lox is as ny as most can get … Jayz is ny … nas is ny … them dudes RAP !! no singing involved except nas here and there … and when they do sing its terrible lol … its nothing melodic about it LOL !!!!!! think biggie on playa hater lol .think max b !!!!!! lol

      • SleepyTheGreat

This is true, I retract my statements lol

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

        LOL!!!!

    • cromthelaughinggod7

You know nothing of the new NY sound. Joey Badass, Flatbush Zombies, the underachievers etc They are all indie and spit nothing about bling, cars or anything. He yeah sounds like the average hood cat if that is what you mean but what artist from the hood doesn’t talk about the same thing from Chi town to ATL. They are not different either. The south spits about that presently also.

      • god

Joey bad ass sounds like everything I hated about 1995, ny rap is trash right now minus hov,

      • SleepyTheGreat

Exactly, son be putting me to sleep with those story time bars. And he got clowin on Nick Cannon’s Wildin Out! during the freestyle round. He corny. Everytime you speak about NY music, people run to the trenches to defend it.

      • EniggaMA

Sooo hov is Makin good ny music. You a commercial dude. Your opinion don’t count

  • I wonder who he signed to?

    • Frank

I thought that was the fcking rumor? I thought it was just me.

  • ItGoesDownINtheDM

50 cents old team sucks !! dude needs to get with his current team on some indy ish !!!!! which means he prob signed with the devil jimmy iovine lol

  • tha OG

I hope he is signed to a major label

  • Havoc Wreaka III

This lame wants to be 50 Cent so damn bad it’s almost sick.. He talks like he’s 6’4 but raps likes he’s 110 5’0 nothing with a high pitched voice

    • EniggaMA

please explain how he wanna be 50? I’m confused

      • Splatter

i’ll explain, dude whole style, mannerism, ad libs, talking over the record, melodies are exactly 2002 50. 50 himself said he hears too much of himself in Troys music and wants to hear him do something else. He’s also been quoted saying 50 was one of his inspirations in rapping.

      • cromthelaughinggod7

He even says it in a song. A brags about it on the song with lolyd banks. Trust me everyone knows he is a biter of 50’s whole image and doesn’t care. He has zero skills. Dude is wack.

      • jeezuz_walkz

just listen it shouldn’t be that hard to break your confusion.

      • EniggaMA

Yall talking about his rap style. I asked how he Wann be like him. I guess Jay trying to be like young chris.

  • MercedNative209

      • Django 2Chainz

They prolly gon make him go commercial so he could sell records, You know how the industry is lol

    • EniggaMA

if he wanna make money he better

      • Django 2Chainz

  • Black Adam

Troy ave is ight. NY aint behind him like that. Some just feel he has the potential to go mainstream. Other than that he’s not the best out of the new New York.

  • meanygreene

    • therealjjohnson

What does this have to do with money? What does your comment even mean? Sound like people dont think he’s too talented. Average at best. Please explain how this has anything to do with “getting your weight up” or the other thousand cliches from the earlier 2000’s you just used.

  • Ghetto Suburbia

If Troy Ave went and got shot 9 times and signed with Dr. Dre and Emimem, He might at best do 500,000 his first year. Its a different time and game. Troy is average and I don’t see him being that big of a artist! But hey, keep the hope alive!

  • brotha_man

troy ave = NY version of young joc

    • jeezuz_walkz

damn my dude u hit that right on the head with that.

  • pauleyPee

I’m not a Troy Ave. fan, per se… But on my first trip to NYC back in 2004, this nigga was in the street grinding. First nigga I met upon setting foot into China-Town… Amazing that this man is here right now. Amazing.
